Oh, sorry Hunny Bunny, I was just teasing.
I know that since the recent changes I've been checking out the Front Page a lot more often than before.

Well my PS was much more interesting once! Whether you'd want to look at the more sparse version now I don't know! Unfortunately you've missed the groups I ran, when they were at their most popular (and top of the most popular convos )... well all but one is dead. But this is a great thread, because you're talking to the community! Not to say previous people didn't, but any move which is thinking about improving h2g2 is a move in the right direction for me
"We must move forward... not backwards, not to the side, not forwards, but always whirling, whirling, whirling towards freedom!"

AYE!!!!! Aiieee! Ayiai! Oui! OK! Yes please. Ja. The more the merrier.
I shall install traffic lights immediately.
I reckon we need to hire buskers to entertain those poor souls waiting to gain an audience though.

hi all
-
would it be better when we signon to instaed of being directed to our space, we first have to go to the front page. then use the my space to acsess the space.
-
on the same lines as the box we have for feedback no and then.
-
that way we have to see the front page, before we can acsess the space.
-
just an idea. jim

Having been Air Force too long, I refuse to use that naval term. How-ever, I'll happily say "sure, why not? go for it".

Jim Cracker,
That's a good idea. I'm inclined to agree with you. We've had a freeze for a long time with regard to development on h2g2, so again, we can only nod in agreement and add it to the list. However, I do remain optimistic that the current ice age will at some point begin to thaw.
And Rev Nick, 'sure, why not' is perfectly acceptable

Please NO! And here is why: On my browser (IE7) I have more than one homepage tab. h2g2 is the the left most, the primary.
//www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/classic/U815350
I can look at my space and 'move around' from there, in the 'skin' of my choice (Goo in this case), and have added a link "ynorfotkcaB" on my space to the <./>FrontPage</.>. Many people have done this kind of link too.
People using Brunel (I sometimes do, depend on the sign-in I'm use, and the way I want stuff shown to me) already have a link anyway. *
So when I sign in I for one are happy the way it works, and should somebody want to tinker with SSO again, I's say "L E A V E I T !"
//www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-perl/signon/mainscript.pl?c=login&service=h2g2&ptrt=http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/classic/SSO?s_return=U815350
The <./>FrontPage</.> it's what search engines find! And if I want to go look first of, I click another browser tab.
* If you want to 'tinker' make sure all the skins have the same link set down the left hand side please.

Coo. I'm on the <./>FrontPage</.>. And my t-shirt winning Web 2.0 entry is there too. Maybe I should see if I can be the quote of the day tomorrow, in order to maintain my double presence.

the reason i said to go to the front page, is that when i first started, i went to my blank canvas space, it scared the heck out of me, the newbies need to see the frontpage, not a page thats empty.
-
itf you put ie vampire in the friends, check them loads are never used, because people, newbies are shown the enmpty space.with no ace till later, so loads just dont return.
-
call me a 60 trs old sentimental, but i wouldnt want to see a blank space for the first sight of h2g2 jim

Traveller in Time on his head
"Well that is one reason to spice up your Personal Space as soon as you know how. You can always make it link to the front page, just to make sure you can find it.
The frontpage is important to the site, however while we have to go to it, chances of reading anything there are much higher compared to a page you visit as confirmation you have Signed In.
Who has seen the most recent survey ? "

Or more to the point we don't "have to go to the [front page]" (until recently I've rarely gone there), and I'm guessing the last few posts (and infact this thread) is trying to think of ways that mean we DO have to go to the front page... or is that just me stating the bleedin obvious?
If you're asking me (you're probably not, but (BEEP BEEP BEEP) I've started so I'll finish ), I would get sooo much stuff that the community has done on the front page, like they've started to do with the groups - but stick it in to overdrive. Not so its cluttered, but so every day the people of the community (and despite popular/unpopular opinion a significant amount of that doesn't contribute to the edited guide - which is why I'm guessing the groups are being promoted more on the front page, and why I was involved in the founding of the UnderGuide), feel that the front page "belongs" to them.
