Noggin the Nog

I think you'll find him at U564934. I've already said hello and offered some friendly advice as I might to any newbie, but he hasn't acknowledged. His response to an approach from a GA, by contrast, is instructive.

It would appear that The Devil is in the details this time around...

Ah, yes. That's who I thought (hadn't read the GA convo, but it's a bit of a giveaway, innit? smiley - winkeye) - thanks for confirming.

Seems to have aged a year!

Well, let's just keep an eye out - maybe he'll behave...although this obsessive/compulsive need to join a club is a tad worrying.

He does indeed appear a poor lad to be pitied. Anyone familiar with the play 'Billy Liar'?
Wonder what his Mum thinks about it all.

We could of course just ignore it all unless house rules are broken.

Yes, I've got this far.

Why, I do not know. But for some reason, I feel like I should become an ACE.

And the debacle continues.

Maybe if his ego doesn't get the attention fix he craves he'll just go away... it's a nice thought, at least smiley - erm

Well, I've tried offering friendly advice, both to this persona and the last one. I'm out of ideas.

Well, my attitude will be, if he steps out of line again, I won't be thinking "oh well, he's a newbie, maybe just a gentle warning". He's had enough of those. It'll be straight to the yikes button.

Agreed. I feel like perhaps this is an outcome of the community not being vigilant enough...

I realise that there are hawks and doves on this issue. I'm feeling hawkish smiley - evilgrin. Seriously, this guy's behaviour could have a detrimental impact on other newcomers.

Does anyone believe his claim to be a carer? I'd hate to be "cared for" by him if he's like this IRL. Munchausen's Disease by proxy, anyone?

Suggestion to everyone trying to solve this problem, here and in other threads. To get this converstion away from Ask h2g2, which is one place newcomers are sent to (and these convos say near the top of that), instead post to a journal entry I have created <./>F138071?thread=375360&post=4791998#p4791998</.>.

That way, any newcomers will no easily find this, not join in, and not come under suspicion. That is the main idea, to move away from a place likely to cause real newcomers to be suspected, when they may be perfectly innocent.

As I've just posted on OH's journal post, my patience has run out.

I'm also a bit disturbed after everything thats happened to see researchers still encouraging Liam et al to continue with his help group smiley - erm

I've just spent an hour or so reading the last days worth of backlog on the various Liam threads. I don't remember which thread, but around the time that Liam came clean and apologised, several researchers were giving him tips on how to manage his help groups, choose a name etc.

I think they wre just trying to be friendly, but personally I don't think Liam should be helping anyone at this point (later may be ok). He doesn't understand h2g2 well ehough to be able to help newbies.

ah yes, i remember thatsmiley - ok

i think the concensus there was that if he was going to insist then all we could do was make sure it was done properly. thankfully though, after his 'confession' he lost interest in doing the club. why would he need to make a club now anyway, he has his own little club of criticssmiley - laugh

The Groob

"Munchausen's Disease by proxy, anyone?"

I saw a documentary about someone suffering from Munchausen's and the interesting thing about sufferers of this disease is that apparently they have no sense of guilt.

Has anyone read "games people play" or any other transactional analysis books? There is a theory in TA called "the drama triangle". To put it simply a person switches between three behaviour patterns:

Persecution : Playing victim : Rescuing

to ensure they get as much attention as possible (even if it is negative attention).

Makes for interesting reading. smiley - smiley

Zyrak(now with added missing tag)

I went of line yesterday thinking that this problem had been resolved,
the problem is what ever advice given to Liam/lee he just doesnt want to listen, he feels he's been attacked and runs and hides under a new account, unless he sets up another useless help group i think we should just leave him be, or he will just open up account after account.
the italics should look into ways of preventing multi account abuse,
i dont see what else we as researchers can do to stop him setting up help groups, while we try he just sets up another account and carries on regardless of how the comunity feels about this,

Still Incognitas, Still Chairthingy, Still lurking, Still invisible, unnoticeable, missable, unseen, just haunting h2g2

Reddyfreddy have you heard the expression don't feel the troll.

With your responses you epitomise the sort of person who sets out to annoy and upset the victim deliberately to get a 'reaction'.

Sorry but USA or whatever (you have changed your name three times in one day)try not to react to some people the way you do.Show some maturity and some dignity and ignore such 'digs'.

Thus far you haven't done anything that I can see is wrong but hang back until you get the word that no one minds that you are providing a help page. After all this is a HUGE site with many, many researchers and you haven't explored all of it by a long chalk.I haven't either(as it is always growing bigger)and I've been here a while.

Try not to get too cross with the grown ups(though some seem to be very childish to me) and be patient with us.

Incog.smiley - tea

Listen you lot...you've got it all wrong. What you need is a dedicated band of "investigative researchers". Ex coppers make good 'uns. Either that or you talk to THE ANGELS..Hell's that is.

Nogging has helped me before and he has a nice touch. But you want somebody for the hard ball stuff..Grey Desk. Between the two of 'em you should get results.

This might be a good place for me to ask for volunteers to start a new help group called the Krikkits. Our job will be to pounce on every newbie, even before the ACEs get there and demand they write a minimum 100 words of literary appreciation on the works of DNA under any of the following working titles:

1. "Why I Love The Adventures Of Arthur Dent".
2. "Life Don't Talk To Anyone About Life"
3. "Bistromechanoid Facsimiles"
4. "Ether, Net or Knot, That Is The Question"
5.
6.
7...
