Hmm, the problem appears to have resolved itself while I was typing. So be it.

Whether I give Liam a chance or not is a moot point as far as the Community's concerned. I'm just one user.
If he cleans up his act, I'll not stand in his way. But neither will I support an effort I don't believe in.
If he does not clean up his act, I will stand up against him.

ok well this is the unwanted, sorry, unforgiven me then...

Teasswill Posted Jan 31, 2004
I think you missed the point, it's what you were doing that irritated people, not necessarily you yourself.
We all like to feel needed & feeling that you are being helpful gives a good buzz - but haven't you realised that people don't perceive what you have been doing as helpful?
Why don't you heed the advise to just join conversations, peer review - even write an entry. You'll soon find the right niche for you that way & learn how best to be helpful.

Lose the SSU... please . Sympathy seeking is not the right choice here.
Joining in the wider life of the community is the right choice.

You think I'm seeking pitty...
I doubt that very much...
I aint sure if I want to stay here...
THATS IT!!!
rangerjustice (formerly warrior ranger) Posted Jan 31, 2004
Whether you stay or go, Liam, is a choice only you can make. That is, unless your disregard for House Rules eventually gets you banned.
THATS IT!!!
Teasswill Posted Jan 31, 2004
What are you seeking then?
Are you hoping to make us beg you to stay?
Not everyone fits in here, although I think the site is diverse enough that as I said, there is a place for the majority of people. If you don't feel this is the right place for you, then don't stay & feel uncomfortable.

sorry, but didn't you say you were changing account to put an end to all this palava
so far you have changed your name 3 times, posted to this thread which i thought you were going to stop and created just yet another account which was part of most peoples concerns over your antics anyway.
i'm really confuzzled over what it is you are trying to achieve?
but you have provided much entertainment for me in the last few days, (i lurk a lot) and for that, i am willing to help in whatever way possible with whatever society you want to start up. just don't ask me to join one of your groups
THATS IT!!!

Lee...
I've just ACEd you... Don't do a disappearing act on me now...
I can see that your title is a way of saying to the Hootoo Community... Fine... Great... But you don't have to keep that screen name for ever... We all learn from our mistakes eventually... The main things might be for you to see how you can help this community by finding a gap that needs to be filled... There can be some Hits and Misses there as well but it's a great feeling once you've got it right [or as close as possible to "right"]...
I might not make any sense right now as i'm typing like mad before i go offline [i'm working tonight unfortunately] but, i can elaborate on some of it when i'm back <./>online</.> tomorrow if you want...
Talk soon...

Liam,
I haven't spoke up in all the threads about you before, I've just been watching what has been happening. And what I've noticed is this: there are three things that you have been doing that have annoyed people. Not, I hasten to add, that I am expressing my own opinion here, but this is merely what I've noticed from the reactions of others.
Firstly, there is all the help groups that you have set up. It seems to be the general opinion that the help groups that already exist do the job quite admirably, and no other help group is needed. So, maybe you should forget about that idea, and try to make youself useful in other ways. Perhaps you could write an entry for the Edited Guide. Have a look at PeerReview, read a few entries, comment on them in the threads there. Or ask around, see what other people on the site think you could do to be useful.
Secondly, there is your tendancy to start a new account when your old one gets into trouble. Doing this makes it difficult for anyone to have a conversation with you, and seems to be annoying some users on-site. So please, Liam, stop doing this. Stick to one account, and don't keep shifting around. It might give you a great sense of continuity then you seem to have at the moment.
The third problem is the effect of the previous to combined. When you start a help group, but then abandon the account you used to set it up, then the people you tried to help ultimately feel unhelped, in some cases possibly hindered, by the person that said they were here to help, but then disappeared. I'm sure you can see the problem here - how would you like it if it happened to you?
Now, as I say, I'm not intending to point fingers here, just bringing together what other have been saying. Please consider what I've said. And I hope your time at h2g2 is a long, happy and productive one.
Geggs
