Salivation

Salivation is covered by expectoration.

I bet that's the first time I've used THAT sentence.

Expectorate - to eject phlegm from the chest or lungs by coughing or spitting.

Salivate - produce unusual secretion of saliva.

And exfoliate - of skin or bone - come off in scales or layers.

I think that 'Lubrication' more properly describes the physical effect produced byb the bodily function of vaginal secretion - ie they may secrete even when there is nothing there to lubricate. (So I'm told<winkeye.)

Damn! How could I miss 'Lactation'?

What would be the words for:
a) The eruption of sebum from a zit? (Simply covered by secretion, except that the secretory gland is blocked?)
b) The exudance of various substances from an infected wound?
c) The shedding of hair?

Also - we should count Bleeding. It occurs not only following physical damage, but also as the result of various disease processes (piles, gingivitis, epistaxis)

I'll add exfoliation...that rids the body of something... salivation doesn't spitting does... I realise that expectoration is more about mucous but I don't know a better word than expectoration for spitting...
