"but it only ever brought Henry Kelly and his tepid and deeply unfair international quiz to mind."
Damn it, I've got a mental image of strange Europeans waving like idiots, and the Going for Gold theme song stuck in my head.
Liam.

Can I hereby admit to having gone out and bought Star Trekkin' by The Firm.
I would also like to confess to having bought "In the army now" by Status Quo.

I saw a deeply worrying advert for Shed Seven's "Greatest Hits Live" album in a magazine the other day.
Does anyone remember "Poing" by Rotterdam Termination Source? It was the textbook example of "so bad it's good". `

That must have been a quick concert!

Spaceman rocks! Only yesterday I was thinking I'd include that in my 'hits of 80s, 90s and naughties' compilation to text to the local radio station.
Quite sad I've lost my copy of that single

no! Well, that's only because people who think they're cool voted for it because it's meant to be 'cool' not to like it. Rather than listening to it and enjoying it for what it is... quite a funky record! Bah, philistines.

Your starter for ten: 'Do the Hucklebuck' - Coast to Coast.

I'm not sure I could do it at the time.
What a shame their follow-up single, 'Let's Jump the Broomstick' failed to enjoy the success of their debut.
'More than in Love' - Kate Robbins and Beyond (bought purely due to her Paul McCartney connections)

Um... "Bang Bang" by B.A. Robertson, anyone?

Bang bang the mighty fall...
I bought "Action" by The Sweet.

And WHAT exactly was wrong with 'Bang Bang' by BA Robertson?
If you'd said 'Knocked it Off' by BA Robertson that would have been an entirely different matter of course.
Hmm 'Action' - not up there with 'Coco' was it? I always liked Julie Burchill's description of the Sweet who - unlike the rather pretty Bowie and Bolan at the time - really did look like 'navvies in lipstick.'

With lyrics like this...
Tony and Cleo struck out
For the freedom down Egypt's way
But Caesar had squeezed her in Rome
On his quilt for a day
Nice one, BA?
Didn't he also do a Bod-awful Scottish World Cup song?

What, was he responsible for that 'I Have a Dream' song? (A dream come true/In Bonneee Scotland...') Which I remember people referring to as (astonishingly) 'The football song that isn't that bad for a football song' (an honour later shared by (again, amazingly) 'Anfield Rap' and then by 'World in Motion').
He was always on Swap Shop wasn't he, BA Robertson? He did one of the theme tunes, 'Hello.'
Oh blimey, where are me tablets...
