Stupid things you did/believed as a kid
Oot Rito Posted Apr 12, 2003
When I was young I was told that eating the crusts of bread would make your hair curl (I have some of the curliest hair around). I knew it was silly and DID NOT believe it (but more 4O years on, I still don't eat crusts....)

Ah ah ! Didn't eat porridge as a child ! a little effort in your youth could have made such a difference to your life now (just realise with that moralizing that somewhere along the line I must have become an adult.... never really noticed before, perhaps it just a once-off thing)

and nobody told you it would put hair on your chest !
Amazing, were you told it would stick to your ribs ? Something I kind of believed as a child because it's so easy to believe after a huge plate of porrige.

My neighbour told me that a pint of guiness a day would put hairs on my chest. She went senile.

Spinks:
Did your neighbour show her chest when she became senile ?
It would be so good to have some proof that one of these "hair on your chest" things actually worked.

When the film Mary Poppins was released, I climbed onto our rather high verandah roof with an umbrella and jumped off thinking I could actually float to the ground. The crash landing into the bushes below cured me of that dillusion. Little did I know at the time that that jump was a pre cursor to my skydiving adventures later on.

Well, esp. if she was 98 it's probably as well that you never saw a hairy flash... it could have done terrible things to your development...

Yes, I ate many crusts of bread to make sure that my hair went curly....it already is, but I wanted it more!
When I was young, I used to squint a lot. So to stop me, my mother told me that every time I squinted, the sun would get further away!I then refused to squint, as I didn't want to be responsible for the sun disappearing!

I wrote a letter to God once. I wasn't sure if I believed or not so I wrote "Dear God, do you exist?" on a piece of paper and left it in the garden overnight. I picked it up the next morning but there was no reply. If my mum had found that piece of paper and written a reply on it my whole life could've been different....perhaps.

I had got the idea, somehow, that copper was a *precious* metal. Not so much as gold etc. but still valuable and, since it was precious, must be costly. So imagine the joy when I found a bit of old copper loo pipe in the back yard...
"I'm rich! I have copper!" etc.

That's wrong?
I have a nice piece of copper pipe that I found where I used to work... I really like it... It's so shiny, and a very nice color and it's made of real copper, unlike those fakey coins.

Yes, it is *beautiful*... I prefer it to gold. Most of which, unless high-carat, is cheap and overprevalent.
those nasty coins which leave your hands grubby, and only buy small sweets. Start your own currency?
