GOOD THINGS ABOUT THE FRENCH:

Their food - one of the few nations to really care about food.

Distain for Californian PC health-nazi b***ocks - they smoke, eat butter, drink caffeinated coffee and drink wine. Hurrah!

Their films - although I hate the rubbish mentioned above, I love the fact that they plow *money* and *ambition* into their films. Theirs is the only European film industry that seems to do so. They made "The Brotherhood of the Wolf". What has Britain got? "There's only One Jimmy Grimble". My case rests.

They built the Eiffel Tower, which is great, and had the good sense to remove the giant Citroen car advert from it early on.

Their resistance forces caused the Nazis all sorts of bother in WWII. Huzzah.

*Note, one of my favourite stories about this guy concerns the Belgian anarchist who had the novel idea of hitting powerful/annoying people in the face with a cream pie. He constantly picked on BHL, because BHL claimed to be a pacifist, but would always chase and beat-up the Belgian pie-slinger. This caused the said Belgian such amusement to see BHL's "ideals" brushed-aside each time that he kept pie-ing him to get the same result!

i don't personally give a toss what some researchers think of the french if they are so quick to generalise and confuse chirac with the french... as far as i'm concern i won't waste my time convince them that they're wrong: they've obviously got their mind made up already...

I find these an extremely offensive, xenophobic and pointless conversation.

All it does is antagonise people and does not acheive anything positive. Raking up the past does not help anyone. Sterotyping the French is extremely insulting. You should not generalise and complaining about the French are governed. We could all point negative things about each countries goverment, there is no such thing as a perfect system. Look in our own back yard and the type of our unfair voting voting system we have. I could give along list of what is wrong with the British government.


We should celebrate differences in cultures especially in a world where cultural traditions are disappearing fast.

There is enough disharmony in the world and we should be trying to build bridges not cause more discord.

And to be honest, I'm extremely surprised at Alec himself, I haven't run across him a lot, but in most of the threads I've seen him he appears quite normal... maybe this particular thread is just his way of letting off steam and getting a huge chip off his shoulder...
