I agree with Mr X - carpets are home. Wooden floors are tenements with barefoot children in dirty vests.

Having said that, many people have to go for the wipe-clean version due to allergies in the family.

Mr. X ---> "Be excellent to each other. And party on, dudes!"

Oh... that makes a lot more sense...

*ahem* I read the last reply first.

Anyway, yeah, I get the need for an easily cleaned floor in a bathroom, or a kitchen, or a garage. It's putting it in the rest of the living space that baffles me.

Or, rather, second-to-last...

This is getting kind of embarrassing. smiley - blush

Ah, here's one: reading forum posts in a scrambled order.

And on a separate but related subject: watching television shows or movies in a scrambled order. Though I've had enough experience with those that I can sort it out anyway.

Quote......"I don't understand why hardwood floors are considered preferable to carpet."

Well, in our case, when Mk2 was alive, we put down a hard wood floor in the bedroom, as it cut down the amount of dust, for her emphysema, and was easier of me to clean.

I know what you mean though, they are a bit cold on your feet.

They're not all as clever as you, Sho - they have to work their way through to the question before they can come up with an answer.

I hate that one Sho. I've seen it far too often on tech forums where people are looking for help, and don't get it. They get advice such as "Don't do it that way" or "Don't use that programming language/software", but rarely the answers they're after.

As for slippers, I've just had to throw a pair away that had finally worn out. Thankfully I was bought two pairs that year, many years ago, so still have the other ones.
I don't tend to wear them in summer though, only when it's really cold.

is it wrong of me to hope that you also have a pipe?

I have a dressing gown I wear around the house in the cold, but no pipe I'm afraid.

I find slippers a bit manky. We have carpet on the stairs, but every other floor is wood or carndean. Much easier to keep clean, especially with 2 dogs. The house is warm enough that bare feet don't feel cold on those floors, but my indoor footwear includes a pair of slipper socks with bobbles on, fit-flops, and Crocs.

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am...

Do you wear the slipper socks, flip-flops and Crocs all at the same time?

(Coincidentally these are the three types of indoor footwear which are objectively worse than slippers. smiley - tongueout)

I don't have slipper socks, but I do have fit-flops for summer use and a pair of Shuvs, made by the same company, that I use as slippers. I refer to them as 'house shoes', the German term for slippers. They're so comfortable that I've almost gone out wearing them, something I've never done when wearing slippers. I could go out in them if had leather uppers, but they have felt uppers so they aren't weatherproof.

Please note that I said fit-flops, not flip-flops. One is a brand name, the other is a generic term. I do have flip-flops, but I don't wear them around the house.

Oh, I thought Beatrice's 'fit-flops' was a typo.

I've looked them up. They appear to be a cross between flip-flops and Crocs. And are therefore the worst footwear ever invented.

You wait till you've tried them!

Slipper socks can be washed, and the others have some circulation going on.

Talking of slippers, I've just exchanged a pair that I bought at ASDAs for £10, the stitching burst, but they were so warm, I got the same ones.

Fit-flops are nothing like Crocs. They're extremely comfortable toe-post sandals. Shuvs have the same kind of footbed and are also extremely comfortable. I have nothing against Crocs, personally. They're comfortable enough, in their way, and great when you're camping.

...Oh! for the good old days of electronic controls that lit up so one could read them in the dark.

smiley - smileyOf course if they go to touch screen controls, that'll nicely solve that problem, if not the problem as to how to use the system in open sunlight.

A couple of pairs of moccasin type slippers already on the shopping list, one for indoor and one for outdoor use.

Pity I can't keep the latter on the front porch.

If I do, the neighbor's chihuahua steals them.smiley - winkeye
