Wow, what kind of wedding was that, if they had to lay down rules for the guests like that?

Lotus Notes email system, it had a setup password of newpass3 There was no requirement to change this. She said five years on there were still many people with that password."

I work for an organisation employing a couple of thousand people, that has used Lotus Notes for years. We have not been forced to change passwords and as a result people don't usually change it.

Most of us still use "lotusnotes" as ours.

Major petty hate for me?

MOH asking me to do something when she's upstairs and I'm in the garage, so I can't possibly hear her, but she ASSUMES I can, so I'm in deep s*it when I haven't done it. However, as I never heard her in the first place, and therefore don't know where I was when she said it, how do I prove I'm not just ignoring her? smiley - grr

Our passwords have to be a certain number of characters long, contain at least one capital letter and some numbers. We also can't use one that we've used the last *eighteen* times!

The uni changes our user selected password at the end of each academic year for a generic one. We're issued with a new one when we re-enrol. It's - wait for it - the same one they gave us at the beginning of first year, second year, and third year. What's the point in insisting we change it within the first three weeks for security reasons if they're just going to reset it. Really secure guys.

Found this on User Friendly a while ago. It's a three cell cartoon strip:
----------
Please create a passoword *******
Password strength : weak. Please try again.
tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap shift tap tap tap
----------
Password strength: Mediocre. Please try again.
tap shift tap tap shift tap shift tap tap tap shift tap tap tap tap shift tap shift tap tap tap tap tap tap shift tap
-----------
Password strength: Adequate Thank you for creating your password. You will be asked to change it tomorrow.

Now if you're really mean and can get in before your mates, you can bugger them accounts by changing their passwords for them ...

I wan't clear in my typing in that each student is give a uni-generated password, which we're recommened to change (though how may do I don't know, because there's no obligation to.) Each is unique to that student, so I can't get access to others' accounts - but wouldn't it be great though? smiley - smiley

I want to be clear, I don't hate Republicans per se, what I hate is that I'm /surrounded/ by Republicans. There's no variety of opinion, and everyone speaks in such absolute terms. smiley - groan

And they're constantly comparing Obama to some kind of reborn Hitler! Just now, I overheard two people in the hallway who said that the only difference between them is that Hitler actually did what he said he would; it's infuriating!

smiley - shrug For the first time in quite some while, the USA has a leader with a *modicum* of respect from the outside world. Some citizens seem to view that fact as proof that there must be something fishy about him.

In this case, I believe it's simply because he's a Democrat and they're Republican. And /that's/ the attitude that ticks me off:

Oh, he's not in the same Party I am, therefore he's evil! He doesn't hold all the same values that I do, therefore he's evil! He's liked by people who are different from me, he must be evil!! Can't you all see how obviously evil he is?!?! Evil, I tell you!! EVIL!!!!!

...

That was an exagerration of course, but you see my point.

It took me a while to realise that Mr X in #6249 was speaking from America.

I live in UK and am a republican - small 'r'. That means I am not a monarchist. I would support any steps taken to do away with the monarchy, and, incidentally, unelected members of any parliament. However, that's not to say I want the House of Lords abolished, only that I want there only to be elected members of it, or at least only members who are there by merit, not by birth.

So, 'republicans' in the UK are very different fom 'Republicans' in the USA.

UK republicans generally are not in favour of people holding positions through privilege. So in that respect, UK republicans are democrats as they would desire to see governments only consisting of those who were democratically elected.

Once that's taken on board, well, THEN you get down to the actual POLITICS of the different parties in government and that's a whole different can of worms smiley - erm

Right, sorry. What annoys me is that I'm surrounded by (American) Republicans. I don't know if you know the differences of Republicans and Democrats in America, so in very broad terms:

Republicans are: anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage, skeptical of evolution, free-market economy, pro-death penalty, pro-guns

Democrats are: pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, accept evolution, gun-control, anti-death penalty

Mr. X,
You can't really generalize like that though. I'm a US-born-and-bred, serving my country, city-boy Republican....That being said, I am pro-choice and pro-gay marriage, I accept evolution as a viable theory, I'm definitely pro-free-market economy and pro-death penalty, and while I'm pro-guns, I'm also pro-gun control. Gun control to a certain extent that is. I don't need a fully automatic rifle to go squirrel hunting, but having a pistol on my hip and M4 is enough to hunt with, stay safe with, and have some fun at the shooting range.

Most Americans have long forgot that freedom really just means balancing my right to do this, say that, or have this other item with your right not to have to watch me do this, listen to me say that, or be around me if I possess whatever item. My right to smoke vs Your right not to have it in your face; My right to have a gun for self defense vs Your concerns over gun safety; etc.

As long as we're talking "very broad" then unfortunately you are right. Far too many people (especially politicians) vote based on party lines; and worse, they *THINK* along party lines also. Answer me this X, when did Americans forget what it means to be American?

Folderol2 (6253) raises an important issue here - perhaps more than a petty hate.

As a UK republican, I am unable to serve as a police officer, magistrate or MP. I suspect that should I wish to I couldn't join the armed forces here either.

To do so, I would have to swear alliegence to the crown. Something that I would not be able to do with sincerity.
