Here in Germany, most cinemas have stopped showing commercial ads nowadays. I don't know how they make their money. But it means you have to look sharp because you can't plan to arrive 20 minutes after the official beginning of the film. A couple of trailers, a warning to switch off your mobiles and off you go.

A well known supermarket - one of our finest if you get my drift.
Strawberries on "special offer" £1.70 off. So they have been selling at £3.99 have they? Really? That was the price that was always intended was it, £3.99? I don't think so. We all know that they would NEVER have managfed to sustain that price for a whole season.

Special offers that aren't - I had a job many many moons ago which included putting price labels out on items in a major Electrical retailer. Every so often, I would notice random items double in price (eg, a £20 toaster suddenly costing £40). It would stay like this for six weeks - then suddenly plunge back down to £20, with the banner "HALF PRICE!!"
Legally this is perfectly acceptable. I was sooooo tempted to go up to shoppers who looked and exclaimed "Ooh, this one's half price" - and say "No it isn't, they just want rid of it, so they make it look like it is!"

Do they charge extortionate prices for confectionary, popcorn and soft drinks? I couldn't believe that it's about £3-50 for a box of popcorn at my local cinema these days.

I think I may have done this one before . Its people who put banners up on footbridges over motorways and bypases telling everybody that 'Sue is 50 today' or 'welcome home Brian' . I dont have a problem with people putting them up , its the fact that they can never be bothered to take them back down . So now I have to look at a bedsheet every morning getting dirtyer and tattyer by the day . The event long over , the lettering faded and illegable .

I'm going to rehash one of my old PH's ... the traffic calming scheme near me ... it doesn't make the people any calmer ... in fact it incites them to drive faster to reach the chicane before the people on the other side ...

I think in those instances you should move to the side you drive in whatever country you're in - so in the UK you move to your left.

IIRC there's a "Campaign to walk on the left" on H2 somewhere but I can't find it.

People doing two things at once ... in particular when one of them involves a phone ... just out for a run saw a man washing his car while talking on the phone ... hardly good manners to the person at the other end. Do one thing or the other, not both half-heartedly ...
