Just read the thread, and though I don't agree with his views, he is, of course entitled to air them as long as they are not inflammatory. This is just what H2G2 was set up for, some lively debate and opinions (whether members of the community agrees with them or not). If you are offended by postings, then you can always use the complaint button.

I am also certain that he could do damage, and we make our judgements from not living in a fundemental society as another poster said.
I'm asking myself if we would allow an extreme fundemental muslim the same amount of time and who decides what is inflammatory.
I'm not saying we shouldn't, but would we think differently?

Oh PLEASE bring a fundamentalist Muslim on here...I really want my first fatwah to be memorable...

It would be decidingly more complicated with Muslims. You have the added fear of unintentional racism, as well as less people knowing the Koran to pick apart the arguments...

But I'd quite happily take them on. All fundamentalists are one in the same.

I'd be a little careful if I were you mate. The Home Office is about to enact the new regulations on Incitement to Religious Hatred. Under these regulations the interpretation on what constitutes 'religious hatred' is pretty broad and suitably vague, and will need clarification by case law.

There is already a queue forming of various religious groups who want to stifle dissent through the use of these regulations, and right at the top are a number of Christian and Moslem Fundamentalist groups.

It is rumoured that certain Internet Forums and Chat rooms (such as Witchvox) are in their target list, as well as the WatchTower magazine and the Catholic Herald!

The way in which we have questioned Justin for instance could be easily misinterpreted to fit these regulations. Luckily for us our Justin has a sense of humour and a compassionate nature, I doubt a fundamentalist Imam would be quite so forgiving.

And so begins the end of freedom under New Labour. Isn't it strange how they and the NAZI's both claimed to be Socialist yet supported right wing agendas?

Blessings,
Matholwch the Anarchist /|\.

He could do damage, if you react to his views. You can choose to ignore them.

I say he's acceptable. talking to him can be like talking to a brick wall, and I find his views often incomprehensible and ill-thought out, and sometimes even repulsive.

But I accept his right to be here.

Re : religious hatred (sorry Hoo, another off topic post)...does that mean to say that by law, no Christian church can preach against Satan? Being a Satanist, I find it incredibly offensive...

smiley - laugh

PC gone mad!!!!!!!! People *need* to hate each other. Good for the self-esteem. And no one will ever make me stop damning organised religion.

*suddenly remembers ranting at the TV whilst watching BBC Parliament*

Getting back to the *acceptable* thing though...(sorry...millions of posts of mine on this thread)...just because he has the right to have an opinion & post it on this site, *doesn't* mean to say that everyone has to sit back and let him get on with it. There is nothing wrong in attempting to oppose him...or anyone else that is...

Agreed. I always find it interesting to engage him in debate (even though he refuses to admit that's what it is), as good debating discredits his views in the eyes of observers.

Something that unsettles me about people today, is their lack of motivation to do anything about a problem...most common phrase used being *it's not worth it* ...well...sometimes it is!!!

I agree, there's nothing wrong in attempting to oppose him, if you can be bothered.

Justin seemed quite proud of the fact that he'd been banned from the BBC's Christian messageboard. He used to have that information as the first line of his U-space. He apparently saw this as vindication, confirmation that his views/the Truths of God were unwelcome on a board representing a media rife with non-Christian sinners (i.e. - well, you can probably guess who he considers sinners...).

He *expects* people to hate him and to want him to be silenced. He specifically said that if he's acceptable to the majority, then something is wrong.

And what I'm trying to gather here is the evidence that, if he wants to be hated, and vilified, and persecuted, for being a "Christian" by his own definition - he's come to the WRONG place. h2g2 is simply not like that.

Opposition is not persecution (and in fairness he has not even implied that it is, AFAIK). And the overwhelming (97.2%) response so far is that he'll find *only* reasoned opposition here - not a lynch mob calling for him to be banned from using the site (assuming he stays within the House Rules). This is an extremely encouraging response, and more or less exactly what I expected.

Thanks, h2g2! smiley - cheers... and keep them coming.

H.
(anyone else wondering what h2g2's got that the BBC's Christian messageboards haven't, that makes this place able to accomodate such characters when they can't...? more diverse membership? premoderation? smiley - yikes look at me going off topic! smiley - winkeye)

Regarding the Christian messageboard being less tolerant of Justin than h2g2;

Perhaps they felt he was a bad representative of Christianity, having the sort of extremist views that give Christians a bad name. He's not really the sort of person you want on your team.

Also, he would probably be more intrusive there, whereas he keeps to his own corner on h2g2.

I'm not familiar with that messageboard, so I'm just hazarding guesses.

Well...post September 11th...think about what he probably was posting on the topic. Not any suprise is it? And considering the state of the world right now, most people don't need that kind of unpleasantness flying around on their computer...

Still Incognitas, Still Chairthingy, Still lurking, Still invisible, unnoticeable, missable, unseen, just haunting h2g2

Just ignore the person. He is entitled to his opinions and beliefs but I don't have to listen to him.If he breaks the rules then click on the yikes button and let TPTB deal with it.If you argue with such people they begin to feel they have more power than they do and they see it as encouragement that they are right.Ignoring them is a better reaction as they eventually get bored because they don't have an audience.

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

By all means Incog, don't give such people the fuel of an argument by replying to them, but don't ever ignore them, not unless you want to take on the possibility of ending up in the situation I described in post 76. To quote a cliche - evil prospers when good men do nothing.

Io agree with Saturnine.

I'm a member of the Liberal Democrat party. people say to me "what's the point? they'll never be in power" and Is ay "the point is i agree with them, so i joined" similarly, if I disagree with someone i will argue with them. I have beliefs. I will argue forn them. Whivh is probably why I accept Justin...
