Sorry! Forgot about Opera! Even though they don't look like tabs at all... the first Opera I used had true MDI, but that was a horrible way to have a web browser. Tabs are sooo much better.
Nice link, too.

Oddly enough, still using crazy browser. At full screen mode with tabs at the moment.

opera is all cluttered up with ads, though....

HappyDude Posted Sep 3, 2002
no its not - if you choose the sponsored version there is a small add at the top right hand corner in a space that would otherwise be blank & if ya dont like that you can always
a) register it
b) press F 11 for full screan mode
c) use a prog like web washer

i'm using mozilla. Is opera really that much better? and will web washer take out that ad in the corner? I like to have toolbars, but the ad makes them too thick.

I'm told web washer works
I've got a full toolbar no probs at a screen resolution of 1024 x 768
Is it better? - at the moment Mozilla has the more advanced (but slower rendering engine) but for h2g2 because of its superior tabbing I do think Opera is better

Mozilla 1.1 has some enhancements to the tabbed browsing. I've not tried it myself yet, as I'm not entirely sure there's a Galeon that works with it yet, and I also can't be bothered to compile it or to download the source code or even the binary packages for Windows. The release notes do mention a couple of things about tabs that should make things work a bit better though.

Webwasher works as a local proxy server. You can block everything and everything that comes through http.

On my Linux box, I've tweaked /etc/hosts (which acts in some ways like a local DNS, in that any hostnames in there aren't put through the DNS server to find out their IPs, it takes them from that file) so that ad.doubleclick.net resolves to 127.0.0.1 - my local computer. Thus I frequently find that instead of adverts, I get 'Not Found' pages appearing inside the iframes, which are coming from my local web server

"WebWasher filters out unwanted advertising and protects the surfer's privacy by filtering cookies, referer strings and Web bugs."
and it works on Windows Linux and Mac

Yup, but stopping the ad reaching Opera doesn't make the toolbar any smaller; it just leaves a 480x60 pixel blank space in it.
