mel it will take four times as long but you are at uni level and it's a very long way from me which i am struggling with the basic phrases. i did not have very good experiences at learning french at school. i am 40 years of age. this post is supposed to be fun not hard work. it only helps to a certain extent. i thought this was the franglais thread which means a combination of french and english.

No offence but learning french is both fun and hard work, the 2 are not mutually exclusive! 
Peoples' experience a l'école (nf school) est (is 3rd person present) seldom amusant (adj; fun)!
Franglais ^ like that, est a bon (adjm good) way to apprend (learn 3rd person present) vocabulary

je suis slow learner et takes me longer to pick things up. je prefer to learn french either in music as in music terms, cookery or singing songs.

Tu (you familiar) aimes (like) faire de cuisine (phrase translates as cooking)?
j'aime faire de cuisine chinois (chinese) les stir frys are facile (easy)

j'aime francais salad and bbq's.
here are some french phrases that i learnt this week on my french taster course - french lunch.
un grand cafe, un the au citron, un juis d'orange, un croque, un glace a la fraise si'l vous plait.
c'est combien?

during l'été, je prefer la cuisine italienne. Je viens de make tiramisu et... eat tiramisu, bien sûr
Une autre chose that I did today: parler français pour the first time since mon examen de français in june. Surprise: la française understood what I said!

je suis part italienne but ne pas parle italienne only in musical terms. je mange tirmaisu only once (molto bene).

oui, la pluie, c'est refreshing, mais ça won't last longtemps...
une autre petite question: est-ce que that français summer song 'j'ai un petit problème dans ma plantation' is a regional problem? On joue ça constamment à la radio ici and it's driving me crazy!

Je devrais find un radio pour hear cette 'plantaion' song!
les accents? in MSword they are plus facile! ctrl+' then e gives é etc
there is a list in the shortcut keys menu or in symbols somewhere.
Me I prefer un clavier francais! sauf when I actually veut to type at grand vitesse in which case I just cope without accents!

Je use le spellchecker pour mettre toutes les accents dans le correct place pour moi

accents ne pas possible on cable tv interactive digibox clavier only on pc's. je ne pas avec pc.
