BluesShark, you can't mean HIGNFY is past its date? The ritual p**s-taking of politicians etc, is priceless!

I think i side with thosde who think that taking the p*** out of them only encourages them to think that they have a relevance to our lives.
Besides, Merton, Deayton and Hislop are insufferably smug.

I think part of my problem is that it is so *ritualistic*. Which is to say, ancient and formulaic.
'Oh, it's John 2 jags/punches Prescott'. Cue hysterical audience laughter follows, even though nobody in the audience, and probably nobody except Hislop knows exactly what Prescott is up and why.

Talk about topic drift!
Well Blues Shark the News Quiz has been going for 25 years, follows the exact same formula every week and is still hilarious IMHO.
Just looking at John Prescott makes me want to laugh!

The News Quiz doesn't suffer from the samer smugness quotient that Deayton and his merry pals bring to tv, and has a slightly higher ration of people who understand politics and news, in my experience.
The nadir was reached when an American comedian appeared on HIGNFY, and clearly didn't know a damn thing except that Tony Blair was 'president' of the UK.
What was the point?

Well, again, I felt that the tub of lard thing was a huge self congratulatory back slapping session by three very unimportant individuals who found that somebody had something better to do than appear on their show.
Never mind that Roy hattersley was a decent politician and continues to be great poliitical thinker and critic of new labour, no, we'll just have a few easy jokes at his expense.

This is what Steve Irwin said about Tony Blair:
"Yes, the very rare Blair is such a servivour. Once hes backed into a corner, he runs to Africa one minute and Asia the next, a very slippery creature!"
For all those people who hate HIGNFY, outside now!!!
I love those guset publications such as:
Christmas Tree Monthly
Emu weekly (read this one, just once)
Construction news

HIGNFY is funny - even if Agnus Deayton needs his autocue to be so

The high point of HIGNFY for me was Tom Baker- not only did he give the impression of not knowing what had happened in the world that week, he sat there for 25mins talking complete and total unrelated-to-anything b*ll*cks

I quite liked Stephen Fry's studied bafflement at certain questions, specifically: "Do we have a Royal family? How exciting!".
But Deayton's look at the end of the last show was one of the top five tv moments of all time, imho.

2DTV has surpassed HIGNFY really though in terms of the quality if politial satire

I've got no problem with it - and I've actually done it! Shocker!
Only the once, mind you. It managed to be very intimate and not very intimate at all, at the same time. Not unenjoyable - but have no particular urge to do it again.

I love it when people don't read the backlog!
So, when did you do "Have I Got News For You", DMS?
