What songs make you cry like a baby?

Post 41

You can call me TC

Oh lovely! Can I join in?

I always cry over "Leningrad" by Billy Joel ... and some of the really corny ones that people have been mentioning - I'm glad we can unashamedly admit to being moved by those frightful old songs, mainly because of the memories associated with them.

My other guaranteed smiley - crysmiley - brave-jerker is "Barcelona" sung by Freddy Mercury and Montserrat Caballe and "The Show must go on", in which he openly admits he is dying.

And for me as an an expat - Rod Stewart's "Every Beat of my Heart" can have me blubbering into my smiley - stiffdrink

And we’ll drink a toast
To the blood red rose
Cheer a while the emerald isle

And to the northern lights
And the swirling pipes
How they make a grown man cry

I'm from the South of England, but it's still smiley - magic ... I'm sitting here at my desk at w**k smiley - crysmiley - crysmiley - crysmiley - crysmiley - crysmiley - cry just reading those words.

As for classical music - I can go through months of rehearsing masses and Bach's passions, but come the night, I can't sing for sobbing.

And the church choir I am in has adopted a couple of English carols which are so lovely to sing ("The first Noel" and "Hark the Herald Angels sing") They are unknown in Germany, where all the carols sound like dirges, so they are nice to sing because they're so unabashedly cheerful, lovely tunes, and full of nostalgia for me.

*reminder to self - don't forget the Kleenex at the next few choir practices*

The First Cut is the Deepest, sung by Cheryl Crow. Cat Stevens can never make me cry. smiley - smileysmiley - cat
Which Halleluja are we talking about, by the way? The one in the Shrek soundtrack is beautiful and sad, I think it's originally Leonard Cohen's. But there are many others.
'Caramel' by Suzanne Vega makes me try very hard not to cry.

Lady in a tree

Ooh ooh forgot ... Who Wants to Live Forever - Queen. smiley - wah

And if I'm feeling down already (as opposed to the other songs I have mentioned where I can be in the brightest of moods and then switch because of them) Barber's Adagio. I know it is cliche funeral music but it is very moving nonetheless. smiley - cry

As for Barcelona - I don't cry but it does make me feel very emotional - in a goosebumpy sort of way. smiley - sigh

"And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" by Eric Bogle, Pogues version. Every time. It just sucks me in.

"And the young people ask me 'What are they marching for?' and I ask myself the same question."

And lots of others that I won't bore you with.

Oh, go on, one more.

I actually had 'a moment' in Quality Save (yes, I am poor) the other week as they were playing "She's Leaving Home" over the tannoy-thing. Just makes me feel guilty for leaving home.

Is this some kind of High Fidelity therapy? Let it out, everyone. Share your sobbing moments here.

I totally feel you on that one. I just bought that record (playing catch-up, sorry) and it sure does suck you in. For the first minute or so I thought what a drag, but I just couldn't turn it off.

Song that makes me weepy that no one's heard of:
Just Say Goodbye
The Del Dragons

"When you're leavin'
Late in the evenin'
Don't say you love me
Just say goodbye"
