Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah. That is a beautiful song anyway, but Buckley's voice is incredible and the guitar on it is magic... And it's so poignant...
*thinks about it*

Annie, the name of the song is 'The Impossible Dream'. It's originally from a musical called 'The Man of La Mancha', but is one of those songs (like 'You'll Never Walk Alone' from 'Carousel') that has seeped into our collective consciousness without betraying its theatrical origins.

I'm a big soppy too
In the Arms of the Angel by Sarah MacLachlan (They subject of this song is enough to get me blubbing)
When She Loved Me By Sarah MacLaclan (Who didn't cry when Jessie sang this in Toy Story 2)
Shut Up and Drive By Chely Wright (Reminds me of pulling myself together and realising I COULD live without my hubby)
Throwing it all away by Genesis (This is the ultimate break up song IMHO)
Fields of Gold by Eva Cassidy (It was used in a Cancer charity advert, the one with people looking in the mirror and seeing their loved ones standing there and when the look away they're gone, I'm sitting here typing this with tears in my eyes)
Need your Love so Bad by Fleetwood Mac (Cried my eyes out to this over many a break up)

"Streets of London" brings a tear to the eye.
Music from films when taken out of context can have a powerful effect. This has happened to me with music from Titanic, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I've heard the music without even noticing it, found myself in tears, and then realised what's playing on the radio. Bit spooky really.

I know what you mean Mol, I can never hear Mozarts Clarinet Concerto without thinking of Out of Africa, my favouritest weepy film of all time

Sandy Denny singing 'Crazy Man Michael' (Fairport Convention's 'Liege & Lief' album) - fortunately, left behind in London.

I'd like to contribute, but I have a pebble for a heart and don't think I've ever cried at a song.
The thought of what I've just typed makes me want to cry though.

I cannot help but feel that Johnny Cash's cover of "hurt" is quite emotional.

Dunno about songs..but I've just been weeping buckets at Doc Martin on telly
This curmudgeonly bloke with no people skills...and suddenly we see how starved of love as a child he was.
I had to phone my Mum afterwards and tell her I loved her.
And my daughter.
(well, I didn't have to phone *her*, but, you know...)

"Sure as gold is precious", I don't know who it's by. We sing it at church sometimes, and one section always has me trying not to blubber. I don't know why, though.
"Every young man working through his hopes and fears,
Every widow walking through the vale of tears,
Every man and woman, every old and young,
Every fathers' daughter, every mothers' son,
I feel it in my spirit, feel it in my bones,
You're gonna send revival, bring them all back home."
You can stave off tears by concentrating on the grammer.

cursed the day he let it go"

Lucky, I watched that too. Brilliant story telling that episode, and by the end though a sad, it left me feeling happy to see him win.
Speaking of ends, there was a "Films with sad endings" thread, there I posted about "Born Free." Since the two are inexorably linked in memory, that is a song that can make me a tad glum, but in a good way, as memories of chilhood come back... And any 'sad' song that makes you aware of wrongs in the world, is that really so bad?
