Aha. Well according to the commandments God is quite jealous so he doesn't want us to worship anyone but him. I'd say since Jesus is in a way him it is justified to worship him. But the worshipping of loads of saints as basically demigods were on of the thing that got Martin Luther to start on his own. In many places people also seem to care more about Virgin Mary than about Jesus or God.

Is this why Jews are against Christians????Becos we break there commandments!!

Swiv (decrepit postgrad) Posted Jan 24, 2002
No, it's just that Jews (or properly the Jewish faith) doesn't recognise Jesus as the Son of God, or the Messiah that they have been waiting for since God promised him way back when - whereabouts in the bible the prophesies are I can't recall exactly, there's one in Isiah I know.
So technically they're still waiting for the Messiah, whereas Christians believe that Jesus was the Messiah.
That's the crux of the difference in the faiths - in many cases it's probably a bit strong to say Jews are anti-Christians and vice versa, and there are people of the Jewish race who are Christians as well.
's all very complicated

*dreams about all churches being turned into pubs*
*worries about what would happen to graves at kicking out time*

Tally Posted Jan 24, 2002
That's more like my kind of thinking. Everyone would like to be buried at a local pub rather than in a spooky old graveyard!!

Excellent, everyone! Excellent! Utterly inspiring.
Someone way back there mentioned how it's clear to see the hand of God in everything around you - the cat, etc. etc. They're right, I think - but how you interperet that depends on your preconceptions, doesn't it? Some people see it as the work of God, some as proof of the Lord and Lady of the Greenwood, whatever. Still, it probably all boils down to the same thing in the end. It's the methods of belief which change.
I would also agree that intolerance is bad. Some religions are more noteable for this than others, of course. Christianity is one, but only really for some people. Although there's a difference again between intolerance and attempted forced conversion. I know some very nice Christians. I even live in the same house as two of them.
They gave up. I think.

*chuckles*
my friend James is going to live with four of us Christians next year, pore wee lamb.
Not that any of us are really of the actively-converting variety

Best kind, in my opinion. I've always rather liked the Wiccan idea - if people are interested, answer their questions, but never, ever, ever attempt to convince someone of the rightness of your path over theirs. If they want to follow yours, they will. You can show them the door, but they have to open it.
Basically, no active converting. Just answering questions. But then, Wicca is a pretty modern religion, even though its roots are ancient, so maybe it's a sign of the times.

That's how I like it - but most religions, including Christianity, go for active conversion. I just get uncomfortable doing it, and I get uncomfortable when other Christians jabber on at me like they're trying to convert me more...
