Can we have personal 'most famous people'

In that case my most famous person would be Lech Walesa, leader of the Solidarity Party who helped lead Poland out of communism and became the first democratically ellected leader of Poland !!

Dorian Gray

I'd go with Gandi. But if he doesn't win the majority vote then I'd say Niro.

The chance to say something so crassly irritating on h2g2 without fear of contradiction is unlikely to present itself again, and I'm far too immature to pass it up: you're all wrong smiley - biggrin

The Marlboro Man wins hands down.

PS: I think a few in the list could qualify for the above title as well.

Well, most people in the world are budhists, and also non budhists know Budha, so I say Budha(?Spelliingsmiley - grr?).

I've already nomimated two people, but I'd agree with fish Dancer. Budha was a really big influence of his day, and continues to be today.

please forgive my ignorance!

Hmm, I would have thought you'd know who Che was. But how can we have a "personal" most famous. Surely fame can't be measured by asking one person.

Its okay MrsCloud, my own grasp of history is pretty awful; I have absolutely no memory for dates and names.

It usually takes something significant to jar my brain into remembering something historical.

However as an aspiring mechanical/aeronautical engineer you probably ought to look up the history of flight and space travel. There are a few names that do spring to mind:

Wilbur and Orville Wright
Louis Bleriot
Reginald Mitchell
Frank Whittle
Yuri Gagarin
Neil Armstrong
Buzz Aldrin

Being at least familiar with the past will do your credibility no end of good when it comes to finding that first job.

You want to be an aeronautical eng and you don't know Gagarin? To be honest that is really bad.
