I just got asked out on an internet dating site.

My days of internet dating never went too well, but I think you have to see it as one part of an overall strategy for meeting people (rather than depending on it as your only hope).

Yesterday I met a cutie on a training course whom I gave my email address to ... and there were a couple of attractive women at dancing tonight. I have an internet dating profile on DatingDirect but I have paid the membership and I don't seem to be getting much interest.

It´s a specific swedish dating website, and it´s free. There´s a bigger one that you pay for, but I got very little replies and it didn´t seem worth the money. Naturally I accepted and we´re meeting for coffee on friday, should be fun.

Well, the date got postponed to next week. I just watched an episode of The Big Bang Theory yesterday where Howard is on a date. That made me a bit nervous.

Just a tip from an old geezer...au pair girls. They are absolute survival specialists, they don´t expect to meet millionaires, and meeting a man who speaks their language or finds it worth learning - I know two happy international couples who started like that.

Yes, I did have some happy experiences with those in Ireland. I would quite like to find some around here.

I went to a party yesterday, and got the phone number of a girl I talked to. We´re meeting for coffee today, though no idea if it´s a date or not.

- coffee, instead of in a posh place sounds promising. Be nice in return: wearing a clean shirt for the occasion is a good opening gambit.

Who was she at the party with? I'd guess she's single if she wants to meet up for coffee. Definitely treat it like one.

Either way sounds like things are headed in the right direction. Even if it's not a date, could be that she will have single friends.

Treat every date like it´s THE date. And when she brings single friends - BEWARE! It means if you dare to look at one of them she´ll poison your coffee.

Well, I guess I´m a bit like a dog chasing a car. I have no idea what to do if I catch one. We meet for coffee and cake, and talked for a while. I don´t think she saw it as anything other than a friendly thing, and I didn´t really get a chance to change that.

Give it a week or so.

Use the time to arrange an amusing excursion to which you will invite her, and which should also have some indication of spontaneity.

Sabine has two labradors..."it moves, we´ll get it"...most things moving are mercedes benz taxis.

I had a second date today with the Japanese girl. It was meant to be thursday but got moved. It was pretty much like the first one. I don´t think there´s much chemistry or spark or whatever you´d call it. She´s a nice girl, but seems to be about it. Annoyingly I also didn´t get kissed. Maybe things will go better tommorow with the Swedish girl.

Good luck matey. A date without a shared mother language means both are willing to give it a try.

You say she's Japanese. Is that born and bred or just by parentage. Which is a long way of saying are there any potential cultural barriers you are misreading?

Oh well, just keep dating them if it's not causing you any problems. It'll give you some confidence and she might turn out to be a good friend, or have some good friends ...

She´s born and bred japanese, so there could well be lots of cultural problems I´m not aware of. They´re not really honest with their emotions over there. I think cultural issues might also have been why it didn´t go further with the Iranian girl.
