A fine exponent of popular European Culture...
NB: Eurovison is the name of the network used to transmit the contest.

I watch it, as do mny others in the UK to hea Mr Terry Wogan slag off everything about the contest. Last night he was in particularly fine form but it was the comment
"what was that? I missed it, I was pouring the drink" that actually made me fall off my chair.....you had to be there.
There is also the great entertainment of putting the subtitles on and seeing what a hash can be made ofthings because you get a preprogrammed feed for the songs in 'foreign', THEY CONTINUE IN FRENCH for anything in French and then inbetween has to fit anything the hosts say and all of Terry Wogans rantings.
I did like the addition of the relegating 8 countries this year. Does that mean that next year they relegate 8 more and let this years loosers back in? Could be interesting.

Is it me or is Eurovision getting worse every year? The ONLY thing that is entertaining about it is Mr. Wogan's observances, without those I would lose the will to live.
Can someone please explain who on earth chooses the songs and even more inexplicable is the voting??? For my part I would have voted for Spain - (cr*p song) but the touch of the Ricky Martins would have swung it for me. I thought Greece would have done better - she certainly had the neatest bottom, but France probably should have won - best song/singer/presentation. As for the UK - had someone stolen her outfit? Why else would she be performing in a track suit? (They had obviously stolen her hair brush as well!!)
As for Aqua at the end - I was anticipating them doing something outrageous and shaming the whole of Denmark - (a little too hopeful!!)

I was amused to hear an interview on BBC Radio 5 after the show with a very nice man who was holding a EuroVision party, guests in the colours of the flags, national drinks etc without once mentioning that it was almost certainly made up mainly of gay men, as eurovision as a huge gay following, which usually helps explain the voting much more than national loyalties.

I thought it was great. Although Germany's entry was a bit of a let down after the hilarious p**s-taking ones of the past years.

Huh,
I don't think anybody takes this contest seriously. People around here (in Estonia) usually use it as a good reason to come together, have some drinks and play cards or something like this. It has nothing to do with the music or the songs'll give us a topic to discuss about. I didn't like any song. They were awful including Estonian song. They usually are, this is that kind of contest. The only eurosong I've liked was last year Latvian song "My Star" - charming singer + good sense of humour.
The Eurovision Song Contest is mainly followed by women in the age of 30 and over. If you're not in this age then don't ask why people do it.
The best part of the contest is voting. It was a great fun this year, as noone ever thought that Estonia will get a place higher than 5. or 6. And you must admit that if it was your song you'd be excited too.
And last (but not least) Estonia was the first Eastern European country to win ESC at all. For us it's almost the same as a olimpic gold medal (Sidney, decathlon, Erkki Nool ).
