How tenuous are your connections to the rich and famous?
World Service Memoryshare team Posted Jun 2, 2002
I can't remember if I've posted these two to this thread already, so sorry if I'm repeating myself, but...
I once saw Sean Connery at Bordeaux airport reading the paper and then he sat in front of me on the plane (obviously trying to be my friend )
Another time I was in an airport, this time at the information desk at Heathrow, I saw the pop star Seal trying to charter a plane! Just like that! 'Can I charter a plane, please?' I think it was him anyway.

Sounds like a pop-starry thing to do.
My cousin claims to have a friend who is friends ('one of those "friend of a friend" jobs, eh?') with Prince William. He is on the list of 'approved' contacts, and has his mobile number, although to actually speak to him they have to answer all sorts of questions from men who probably wear black suits and gun holsters under their jackets, giving passwords and passing through voice-recognition software. It seems a bit questionable to me.
I have been in the background of local newspaper photos a couple of times. One of them was a charity bike-ride for a local childrens' hospice.
I've got the autograph of Dr. Harry Kroto, who won the Nobel prize for the discovery of Buckminsterfullerene.

Here goes:
I used to live round the corner from where Cliff Richard used to live before he was really famous. (But not at the same time)
Have been on the same plane as Raymond Baxter (Tomorrow's World) & sat opposite Nigel Hawthorne on a train. Oh and Peter Barker (actor) too, on a the tube.
My parents went to school with Peter Sallis.
My husband's ex-landlady's granddaughter was Midge Ure's nanny (well, nanny to his baby as it were).

I have a few good ones here.
My most obvious claim-to-fame is having a half-hour conversation with Ron Atkinson in Leicester Forest East Motorway Services.
BUT: My Dad's ex-girlfriend's cousins husband was an extra on Coronation Street.
Even Better: My Dad's ex-boss's second cousin's ex-wife's next-door-neighbour's brother is Graham Taylor. Beat that for obscurity.

My Grandfather worked with Ernest Shackleton's sister.
And the Queen once walked past me THAT close. (Not really tenuous enough).

Yesterday I saw the machine restoration team from (a Channel 4 programme I can't remember the name of) being filmed on a steam driven merry-go-round that I *assume* they'd just rebuilt/restored/whatever, but didn't realise exactly who they were until I'd walked away, since I've a terrible memory for faces.

I thought they were all improvised!
My son was near the grounds where they film Stargate and lots of scifi TV programmes when backpacking through Canada. Seeings as lots of people on H2G2 probably live near there (Vancouver way) that is probably no great claim to fame!

My brothers girlfriend lived above Darius of Popstars fame and he even had the gall to steel not only a baking tray but also a bag of caster sugar - what's more it was just before the Britney episode ...

My cousin is the nanny of Jemery Paxman's children.
He occasionally phones my aunt up saying something like "Can't you do something about your daughter?"
To which the usual reply is "No, sorry. She's your problem now!"

Just for Heavy and others,
My family and I were dinner guests at no 11 Downing Street in the late 70s.
Denis Healy was chancellor at the time and his wife was friend with my parents.
See lefty even then!!!

I was at a hall of residence with some people who were extras on the Eastenders: Ricky and Bianca Special. I happened to be in watching the TV when they came in to see it. Only one of them actually made the final cut, and even then it was only her back as she walked past. And the university bits were filmed in the corridos where I spent three hours today queuing up completely unnecessarily.
