So why don't YOU write for the Guide?

Looks like it!
Surely that's plagarism? Go to the papers!

Kilts? There's a woefully poor entry on them, with some more interesting info in the threads, but it really could do with a massive re-write. How would one set about this? Or should I just write an entry on "kilts and how to wear them"?

I think the info you need is here: www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/RF21

Who can write for the Guide? I came over from the BBC boards and really didn't know too much about the h2g2 why's and wherefores.

I very rarely venture out of my PS these days but, is h2 really in trouble if we don't get the EG looking a bit more healthy?
My experiences in PR haven't been the happiest moments of my life but reciently I've subitted a couple of pieces lately and things have been ok, maybe it's because the usual 'Mob' that used to frequent my PR threads have decided I'm not worth the bother anymore, personally I think all the most interesting subjects have already been written about, to be honest the pieces on the front page recently haven't exactly grabbed my attention, maybe that's the reason the Guide has slowed down.
The reason I'm not writing
No time
No interesting subjects that haven't been written about already
No fiction allowed in the guide.

You could be right Reefgirl .... then again .... you are in a great position to change that, we already have your knitted socks to look forward to ...... more please.

I'm with Fizzy here - I think your knitted socks entry is great, and if you remember, I hinted in the PR thread that you could maybe write an introduction to knitting - or crocheting.
I'm not entirely sure how that should look like, though, and it's probably very difficult to decide what has to go in and what can stay out, but if you'd try, that would be great.

Indeed Bel, I think that if you want to see the entries you like on the FP the best way to do it is write them yourself.
Mind you I've seen so many great entries recently I even voted for entry of the month A28547616 - maybe if we voted for the entry of the month the writers would know the 'type' of entry everyone likes to see..... and nominations are still open for October ... I think.
In November .... so far .... I fancy the Liferaft entry on the FP at the moment .... it's brilliant.

You're right, we're currently voting for September, and nominating for October. And I have to admit that it was very hard to choose a favourite for October, because I think there were many great entries - but then we all have different tastes.

I've only been crocheting since March so I'm not in a position to write a guide to crochet yet and there's already a How to knit EG, I've linked it to my entry and to be honest you really need pictures, it's REALLY difficult to explain how to knit in just words. I was going to write an EG about Enzo Ferrari but that got lost in the pile of things to do, along with finishing all my outstanding stories on ff.net.

I've now signed up to be a community artist to help cope with the demand for all the illustration that will no doubt be required at some stage for the broiling multitude of new entries in PR.

Yes, you're probably right, if it wasn't for the pictures and photos, I wouldn't have understood half of the instructions in my 'how to' book.
Enzo Ferrari? Is he interesting?

The AViators could do a video for a knitting entry.

Enzo Ferrari is only interesting if you like motor racing.
I suppose you could add a video to the entry already in the EG
I do have a photo of a sock I've already knitted that can be used instead of a drawing

The AViators currently are Skankyrich, and me, trying to support his ideas, but not contributing anything else due to a lack of the software I'd need, plus the crap hardware I have, plus a few personal reasons (I can't talk in front of a camera ).
Everybody is welcome to join the group!

That, of course, presumes that there is a film-making AViator who knows how to knit. I'm currently the only film-making AViator, and knitting isn't something I've ever tried my hand at
It's worth mentioning it over at the group, though, as the idea might get someone going!
