The system indexes new articles every hour, so for up to an hour, your articles will not appear in the search results. It's rather like web search systems in that respect.

Researcher 29882 - catchy huh? Posted Apr 29, 1999
I don't seem to have an 'add new user page' thing on my home page. Am I supposed to have one? Does this just mean that this computer hates me as much as all the others I've ever used? Why does everything go wrong, these things are after all only bits of sand in a box. Why should they cause me so much trouble?

Okay - so before logging off for the eve I thought I'd give the "find a friends email address" a whirl and that seems to confuse too. I did a search for me (Andrew Reynolds) and it came up with a result! Yeah!!! But... only one result and that person (even though same name) ain't me but researcher 25596. Who is this guy, someone with the same name (I changed mine in edit on my home page) or do I have two researcher numbers. Explain that one! (Hopefully theres less spelling mistakes in this entry of mine) Bless me!

Is the only way of stopping a user page from being accepted by pressing the consider for rejection button?

On the contrary, pressing the "Consider for Rejection" button is the only way a user entry *can* be accepted.

We've had some problems with the way Netscape deals with cookies - to get around it, you need a new cookie to be set by www.h2g2.com. Go to www.h2g2.com - if it doesn't recognise you on the front page, give it your email address again, and it'll send you a mail with a URL to go to. That should correct the problem. (And no, it won't create a new account for you if the email address is the same)
Exploder 4? Interesting
Researcher 36040 Posted May 6, 1999
I think Exploder 4 is better than Explorer 4. :~)

I think we should stick to the subject, which is "Don't Panic". I hadn't been panicking, but am starting to wonder if there might be some merit in it. Some Researchers are panicking, others not at all. If one was panicking, would one necessarily know? Can anyone out there enlighten as to the relative merits of each course of action?
Maybe, as a co-operative sort of venture, the panickers could play Devil's Advocate (a little-known brand of Dutch egg-nog) and list the advantages of staying calm, while the non-panickers take the other tack. Could one oscillate and get the best of both worlds, in which case a suggested modal frequency would be most welcome - I would be willing to test it!

Greetings to all, including the wise and knowledgable overseers of this place.
I'm dazed, but impressed with the rather entertaining and limitless possibilities.
My question is this: I've got a site that is, in some distinct ways, similar to
this one, and I'd like to talk shop. At this point, of course, I dare not speak
the URL for fear of violating my user contract ban on adverts. Is there any way
I can contact a sysop directly to swap notes?
thanks,
Jim
I'd rather stick my finger down a Vogon's throat, wouldn't you? It makes for better conversation!!

Do you know that you can lick some species of frogs and gain spiritual enlightenment? I'm taking a box full of the blighters with me on my journey to Titan! You just never know who your gonna meet when you visit a distant planet.
