see, el vampo, I would argue that this was not troll like but perfectly acceptable behaviour. And I put this to you for two reasons;
1/ putting "Narnia sucks 'cos its got a stupid lion in it" is not possible anywhere else but ON a thread entitled "Narnia". It would be a tad misplaced anywhere else.
2/ offering up a pointless, unbacked opinion is pretty much par for the course on these misc chat threads. An intelligent, well worded, justified critique of Narnia would actually be more out of place.
Hmmm but wadda I know eh? Im only here for the beer.

Right, I may regret this, but it *is* a thread about Narnia and I *do* have views about the film, as I saw it yesterday.
I was disappointed. I'm not going to say "It sucks cos it has a lion in it". I'll say "I was annoyed by some things in it, e,g Mr Beaver using Cockney rhyming slang, Lucy's cure-all potion not fixing Edmund's lip, and some dodgy looking costumes. I will be balanced and say on the plus side that the scenery and CGI are very well done, and the opening song is very moving. Liam Neeson's voice is perhaps a bit too smooth and sexy for Aslan - not roary enough."
So there you go. I loved the books, was looking forward to the movie, but in my opinion it's not in the same league as HP and LOTR.

Thank you, LuckyStar, I can't comment as I have not seen the film, as yet.

I saw it the other night. It STANK!
I mean, I have time for your epics fantasy or otherwise (Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Zardoz etc) but THIS?! It was just appallingly directed. you could tell the bloke had come from CG animation as he couldn't coax a good performance out of anybody, even the people who could actually ACT!
Apparently there are god knows how many other books to adapt. This series in going straight into my Harry Potter file. As in: bury your head in the sand when the next 'thrilling installment' comes along and ignore it til it goes away.
...King Kong is rubbish too.
Of course, all of this is just my opinion. I'm sure certain people will be highly enchanted by it all.

I saw it the other day and my opinion is somewhat between those of aoneman and Lucky.
Complete and utter tosh! Some effects were good, some bad. Some of the acting was good, some bad. Overall, glad I saw it but won't be making the mistake of going to see any of the others as they come out.
I'll stick to the books.

I actually thought the acting was pretty good actually especially the guy who played the fawn - I think that's James McAvoy. Some of the effects where a bit ropey I will grant you there was one scene where the background looked like a screen I was thinking hang on a minute didn't you spend ages filming in New Zealand - why bother if you're going to re-shoot something that looks so green screen it's untrue.
However I'm not going to condemn Lucky for not liking it as I said not in the league as the LOTR films although I will probably watch other Narnia films if and when they're realised. My opinion, my choice, it's a free country and all that. A.e you of course have a right to your opinion but why did you go and see something that thought was going to suck in the first place - the phrase that's two and half hours of your life you're never going to get back comes to mind. I personally couldn't have made myself to go and see something that I thought I was probably wasn't going to enjoy and I have opted out of group trips and vetoed group decisions to go and see an film that I just didn't fancy. It also doesn't make you sound smart to just say it's pants - just a observation, you've got to say why it's pants in order to do that.

I love all cinema and will go and give everything a chance. Even if I don't like how it comes across on the junket I still go along. Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised and sometimes my feelings are dead right.
This time they were dead right.

OK. Questioning my intellegence eh?
Like I said, if you had actually READ what I said, the director was not at ease with the actors, that much was evident. The story was mishandled in places and the shadow of LOTR hung heavy over it making it seem more like a rip off than an original work. The CGI wasn't too hot either and I wasn't taken up in the story or the world in which it inhabited. Surely a fantasy film is supposed to do this, to transport you to somewhere else. I felt that in LOTR and even Star Wars but with this I always knew I was in a cinema.
Happy now?

Am I the only one who really liked it? (apart from Ged,my little boy and my mum who were with me of course), But then I hadn't read the books so had no expectations to disapppoint.

Touche, I'm sorry a.e I realised after you posted you did give your reasons and I was rude. You do come across as a bit strident and aggressive(which works against you) and some of your earlier postings did seem to be a bit simplistic in their reasoning. That said I think my troll detectors may have got over-sensitive over the years (rather like those annoying car alarms you only have to sneeze too close to before they go off) and some people in other areas of fandom have doggedly refused to accept that there might be some validity to my point of view even if they don't share it which has also possibly made me a bit over-sensitive about folks of have strong opinions contary to mine.
I think with the LOTR films that they raised the bar so much on what could be done with fantasy films that they are going to be a tough act to follow. Although I did enjoy this film it lacked LOTR's epic quality maybe it was the effects (LOTR's were flawless, Narnia's were not) but I don't think it's the entire story. I hope you manage to find something else that fires your imagination - happy hunting .

Thanks Vamp.
I'm not a bad sort at heart, just opinionated and I don't tend to suffer fools.
There isn't anything on the horizon that I'm looking forward to epic-wise for a while. Though I'm all buzzed up for Superman Returns!
