whats the best book you've read
awesomesnakehips Posted Jul 23, 2007
I,ve read many good books, but one that I rate amogst the best is Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks. His research into life in the trenches was amazing, and at times turned my stomach, I really had my eyes opened.
On a lighter note I read Christopher Brookmyre's Quite Ugly One Morning, it was recommended by a friend who told me to percivere through the rather gruesome opening, which I did! (The opening, again is another stomach churner, some may say, with too much detail. However, I was not detered and went on to another good read!)

Mmmh... I really don't know
The tetralogy of Moorcock The Dancers at the End of Time was great, his Elric cycle too.
Fredric Brown's novels are excellent! Fantastic! He's a genious!
But the best? Maybe Les Misérables from Victor Hugo, it's the only one who made me cry (for real).

Not the best book, but I finished the new Harry Potter book on Saturday. Pretty good, some questions/holes, but an easy read.

so much backlog!
Watership Down
Black Beauty
- Both beautiful books, look past the 'it's got talking animals' and read these novels, they are Great.
Enders' Game
- Just quite extraordinary. And goes weird at the end!
I like Robert Jordan's (R.I.P.) Wheel of Time series, though I wouldnt say they are the most accomplished in terms of the language used and at times you get huge cliches. But the entagled plot, the intrigue, the depth of detail, the characters (give them time) and the patience the series demands of you is quite addictive!
Eragon I liked but I wouldnt have put it as my favourite book ever... I prefer Anne McCaffrey's dragon books. And her sci fi is lovely and comforting. Anne McCaffrey is my slippers and cocoa reading!

Anders by Wolfgang & Heike Hohlbein
The Neverending Story by Michael Ende
Momo by Michael Ende
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis
Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer
well and lots more... I think its difficult to tell, because every story has its fascination and if it isn't good for you, you wouldn't feel with the protagonists... Well, like the Romans would say: "De gustibus disputandum non est." (or was it de gustibus non est disputandum?)

Fragmented Pieces. I can't remember the author, but it was a poet Anne something, and its a bit of an odd story but really lyrical and beautiful.
