I'm afraid I still cant do it...smiley - wah If someone could give me directions using photoshop, it would be a big help. Perhaps another artist who also uses Photoshop?

The centaur circle I just checked is already labelled GIF89a in the file. So it isn't a matter of conversion but of setting the Global Color Table Flag bit and the Background Color Index byte.

If you use google there's quite a lot of online information, eg one site says "If you're using Photoshop 3.0, you'll need to get the Gif89A Export Filter from Adobe." and then goes on to talk about the eyedropper tool.

Under the "Help" menu, there's "Export Transparent Image..." It walks you through the steps!

They look the same to me. Try choosing the background using magic wand, and with that selection still active, use the helper.

Choose "I have selected the area to be made transparent" in the first dialog box.

Yeah, I did all that. I tryed using the helper with a new circle, made from scratch, and it came out differently:

Thats not what you wanted tho is it?

The circle looks a little wider than 1 pixel, but I'm at work and don't have a lot of time to check it. But you got the transparency thing down!

No, that isn't it. They *are* transparent but the blue ones have the transparent colour set to white rather than goo #000066.

In addition, the way you have used the save-to-web option has put them in web-safe colours with lots of dither. While web-safe colours have been the proper way to do graphics on web-sites and even on h2g2 at the start, lately the CAs haven't been sticking to them. So you would be allowed to keep your original photo-finish colours rather than resorting to speckly versions.

SEF, thank you for your input but Picquilarius has done enough for a decision to be made and doesn't need to do anything more at the moment. Since you're no longer a CA you won't be aware of this but we're making a determined effort to concentrate on the major issues and to avoid nitpicking at the test stage. The fine detail can and will be sorted out once artists have become part of the group.
