Hi all, I'd love to take the job offer
I'm only curious as to whether the required artwork gets assigned to me if I join, or I have to pick some artless Entry myself.
Never lose your towel,

Hi, Puddle, and welcome to h2g2! I'm sure an <./>ACE</.> will be along to welcome you properly tomorrow; most of them have gone to bed already...
As for the Community Artists - we usually work from the ComingUp list, illustrating Entries before they hit the Front Page. Which ones we work on is pretty much up to us, though sometimes, the Eds will request artwork for a particular one.
You can check out the kind of work we do at A692741 (some of those are old, and don't meet the current requirement) - or the newer blobs, mostly drawn by the current CAs, at A53308361.
To join the Community Artists, there's a little test, just the kind of thing you'd be doing anyway as part of the group. Pick two EGEs that don't have illustrations yet (you can use <./>RandomEditedEntry</.> to find some) and draw pictures for them, using the specs in <./>CommunityArtists-What</.> - that is, a 200px square image with a 1px black border (included in the 200px).
When you've drawn them, upload them somewhere for us (flickr or fotki, for example, but not facebook, since many of us don't have an account there!) and then leave us a message here, with a link to the picture, so we can have a look.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. And above all, have fun!

Actually, I'll have to go check whether it's one or two for the test these days Start off with one, anyway.

Hi Puddle-Thought,
I quite like the style of that one. I wonder if it might be better with just a bit more detail, though? It has a little bit of an unfinished feel as it is, I think.
I like the colours, too!

That was fast! I see you even optimised it - which program are you using?
I'll alert the group via e-mail; hopefully, a few members will drop by in the next few days to take a look. (I myself will be off for a few days, but the others should be around )

Yes well I tried to capture the style of the Hitchhiker's guide.
The images inside the guide in the film (like the scene with the babelfish, or the existence of god) struck me as really powerful.
So that is why it seems simple and maybe even unfinished: I kept it that way so its a stronger image. i could try another picture with more detail (as i normally draw, for example).

Oh dear.
Your enthusiasm is commendable - but don't get too hung up on the entire Douglas Adams thing. While his vision certainly still inspires this site, it's evolved into...something else by now. It's taken on a life of its own, and one of our recommendations for writing entries (see the <./>Writing-Guidelines</.> is that you shouldn't try to imitate his style too much. There are plenty of people on this site who have never read the book at all.
If you look at the links I left you above, you'll see that we all have very different styles. And while experimenting is fine (that's one of the good things about being a CA, you get to experiment!), it's usually better to find your own style than to imitate someone else's; you get a more polished result.
But we're already debating on a higher level here

Thanks for the link to the gallery - there's some great stuff there. With work like that I'm sure you'd be a great addition to the team!
