Tau? more advanced? Wrong?
Wargamer (The Wanderer) Started conversation Feb 6, 2002
Hey there! I'm the Wargamer, a player of, house-rule designer for, and Emperor Worshipper of, Warhammer 40,000. I'd like to make a correction:
The Tau are NOT more advanced than the Eldar.
Let's look at the evidence:
TAU: They use big guns.
ELDAR: They think big guns are crude and uncivilized, war is an art, not an Orkish bloodbath!
TAU: They have big, new grav tanks.
ELDAR: They have grav tanks that have worked for millenia, AND they have super-heavy skimmers! If it ain't broke, why should they fix it?
TAU: They're Fethed in assault.
ELDAR: Wraithlord? 'Nuf said!

BUt, when you think that the Tau have only been around for what?? 2000 years?? cant remeber what is was, but that sounds about right. Where as Eldar have been round since before us! Plus it is the opinion of staff at GW Edinburgh that Tau are more advanced. Even if my Saim-Hann did destroy them last week.
Tau? more advanced? Wrong!!!!!

Tau CANNOT be more advanced!!! They're amatures! If the Imperium hadn't lost its tech, and the Eldar hadn't been all but wiped out, the Tau would've been vapourised before they could raise a fleet! They're just lucky...
Tau? more advanced? Wrong!!!!!

Hehehe
This is true but I just type what I have been told is true. If the nice folks at GW tell me Tau are more advanced I agree with them, even if my Eldar can kick there ass.
Tau? more advanced? Wrong!!!!!
Wargamer (The Wanderer) Posted Feb 24, 2002
And anyway, all that tech can't be good... Which race is found in more areas of the galaxy than all the others combined?
Tau? more advanced? Wrong!!!!!
Eggy - XP doesnt like final fantasy VII Posted Feb 26, 2002
supose, they dont even have warp.
But they have some nice tech.
And hey, at 5000 point battles, low Tech Vrs High Tech, dont make that mcuh of a difference, my Saim-Han got taken out by Gaurdsmen!!
Tau? more advanced? Wrong!!!!!
Wargamer (The Wanderer) Posted Feb 26, 2002
Anyway, the answer is Orks. How techy are they!?

Orks can sometimes be good. I have made some massive victories and suffered some spectaular spamins from the green ones themselves.

although i lost interest in Gw long ago, may i say that the manga stylings of the tau are the coolest thing they EVER made. except for the old squat bikers. so cool. oh yeah, and the old ork shokk attack gun was the mastor. RIP.

Yeah, I really like the Tau Firewarriors and the Crisis Suits. I was thinking of buying a few and creating a manga-style game. Maybe like Armoured Core...

in my experience. you should leave the creating of games to people who do it professionally
Tau? more advanced? Wrong!!!!!

Not in mine!
I created my own Fantasy RPG based loosely on Warhammer about a year ago, and since then I've wound up with new magic, characters, cities, countries, an extensive background, new Dogs of War regiments and two brand new armies all for Warhammer!
None of it is official, of course, but me and my friends use them as 'House Rules'. They're brilliant! Making stuff up is half the fun!

hmm...i find that invented rules lack balance, imagination and character. plus, if you invent new things, specially in warhammer, you change its character rather too much. plus there is already a warhammer roleplaying game...the thing about roleplaying games is that they are insanely detailed

I disagree. I have created a lot of special characters for both Warhammer and 40K, but I believe that they are all prety fair. My best creation is Captain Cassius, who uses the Black Templars cover rule (ie: cannot use cover, but recieves a 6+ Invulnerable Save). It's the little things that make characters great.

Yeah, house rules amke a game better. We play that AP 1, since can go through any troop armour, can beat Invulnerable 6+. Makes the game a bit more diverse.

Someone has to create the rules. And in my opinion making them up can be very fun. It adds to the variety of the game. A few friends of mine created a game called 'The Darest Hour'. It's only half finished but can be a lot of fun to play. It's very simple ad thats always a good thing.

Yeah, I came up with a series of Warhammer Regiments Of Renown, one of which was Leviathan's Kindred; a Corsair force. My friend loves them and now he wants me to write up a 'Man Of War' style game. That suits me fine because I /love/ designing!

i maintian that rules invented do not add character or anything new. they either tend to be pointless, too powerful or dilutery.
there is a reason why elves have toughness three: cos theyre big pansies. if you made an uber elf terminator, it wouldnt be an elf at all. thus the armies are well balanced, with no one having the upper hand
no doubt chaos could have a mast0r retalliator revenger death dealing AP 10 range 72" big shiny penis machine, but that would unbalance it, so they dont.
making up units with histories and conversions but without special rules uses the same leap of imagination but doenst ruin anything
and making new games is fun, but remember, these guys have more time and are paid to do it. so theyre probably better at it...

Not what Iyandes said about N'kai... Or Tom Hawk, or Wraith and the Nine (they're perhaps a little too powerful ), or Samanosuke, or Ma Chao, The Hoard Dragon, or Tal'set and his Corsairs; the Leviathan's Kin. All the Characters were made by buying them either more Wargear than they could normally have (such as N'kai, who has +3 Attacks (Pay for Hydra Blade), +1 WS (Pay for Sword of Striking or whatever it is), and also has a 4+ Ward Save (Bought from Dark Elf Army List as normal) and a High Elf Sword that automatically Wounds (Bought from the High Elf Army List, which isn't normally allowed for him) AND he has a Shield with a built in blade (so +1 A for two close combat weapons).
Okay, so he may be a little overkill, but he's mean't to be! He's an Elven Prince, after all! N'kai rocks, but isn't invincible... sheer weight of numbers can bring him down (Tal'set and 24 of his corsairs did the job against N'kai and nine of his 'Black Knights', though 20 died in the attempt). He isn't some pathetic attempt at creating a god-like warrior, he's just a very unique Mercenary!
