Prepare to be excited...
For the last six months, the h2g2 team has been working on a secret project, which we're now able to reveal.
In April, we will be launching the h2g2 mobile / PDA service, which will allow you to access h2g2 entries from browser-enabled 'smart' phones and PDAs. In effect, Douglas Adams's dream of a hand-held electronic version of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy will become a reality. (We're also hoping to be able to add a lower-grade WAP version some time afetr the main launch for a more basic mobile service)
The service (which some of you might know as 'h2g2 On The Move') entered its testing cycle today - which by sheer coincidence is Douglas Adams's birthday, and we hope to be able to launch the full version some time before the release of the movie AND just in time for h2g2's sixth birthday.
We're sure you can imagine how utterly ecstatic we are to be able to announce this in the week of Hitchhiker's 27th anniversary, and we look forward to being able to release the all-important URL.
In the meantime...
Don't panic!

I'm glad I got a PDA now! I just have to work out how to make it do anything other than be a big 'to-do' list and a diary.

Once this has launched we're also (fingers crossed) going to get a more basic version for older WAP phones. We really have to thank the BBCi Mobile team for some exceptionally hard work and long hours - and patience as we try to explain the basics of Hitchhikerdom

Gnomon - time to move on Posted Mar 11, 2005
Does this mean we should structure our entries for the Guide any differently, or do we just carry on as normal?

Natalie Posted Mar 11, 2005
Very good question Gnomon! This will have a relatively slight impact on the way things are structured, but we're happy to concentrate on those in-house for the time being, while we get the hang of how it can all work best.
We will be revising the writing guidelines slightly soon - the main thing concerns dividing some Entries, in order that scrolling through them is easier - but nothing to worry about.
