Let's try something new smiley - smiley

I've dug up two pictures, and put them both in my fotki album so hotlinking wouldn't be a problem and the titles don't give anything away.

What's happening in picture No. 1, and more importantly, what does it mean?

http://hotimg23.fotki.com/a/80_128/124_29/1.jpg

And what links it to picture No. 2?

http://hotimg23.fotki.com/a/80_128/124_29/2-vi.jpg

Of *course* there are klaxons! And no googling, etc, as per usual.

(I'm aware that I have a few unscored QIs, will do those after finals smiley - ok)

RodtheBrit: That's almost, but not *quite* utterly wrong. In the right direction, in a way, but way off base. smiley - nahnah

fhoto 1 is genesis creating all the animals

what does it mean

god has a thing for big jugs

fhoto 2 is an artists rendition of an unfamiliar animal based on a writen description

what does it mean

man has a wild imagination

connection, both are imaginary and not based on reality

smiley - bat

They're not photos, Taff smiley - winkeye

Not Genesis. And if you want "big jugs", look at the second picture more closely... smiley - winkeye

That is an artist's interpretation of a rather imaginatively-described creature, so +1 DGI for that.

But your last point is utterly wrong smiley - evilgrin

It'd help to figure out what each is a picture *of*...

Is the first one the land giving birth to the various creatures?

The second one... not a clue. It is supposed to be a rabbit, what with those ears an' all?

Malabarista - now with added pony

That's a rather...poetic description of the first one, Vip. Not *quite*, but in a way, it's more accurate than simply saying they're coming out of the ground. So +1 DGI.

Not a *rabbit*, no.

Well the first one could be norse, or Celtic in origin, the second looks middle ages. Mother Earth (garden of eden)AND The other looks like the devil. But more likely some ones representation of the animal we all came from, or the beast that in habits hell.

The two drawings were made less than 100 years apart, and probably later than you seem to think. You're utterly wrong in your interpretation, though "the animal we all came from" gets rather close to the crux of the matter, if only you knew how!

Picture one eludes me at the moment Mala....

But picture two reminds me of pictures brought back by early explorers of Africa, e.g. an animal with an arm where it's nose should be; (an elephant, of course)

This could be a dimly recollected drawing of a female Cimpanzee, with the pendulous breasts that a matriarch has, using a stick to winkle out grubs from a rotting tree trunk......

The only connection I can think of is a tenuous link to Charles Darwin.

Ooooh dear, Darwin was a smiley - bluelight - this is well before Darwin.

But you do get a DGI +1 for the elephant, even though you don't know why yet. smiley - whistle

Right, here's the clue: I've just inserted both of them into the powerpoint presentation for the mini-lecture thing I have to give on my bachelor thesis, the topic of which was curiosity cabinets today.

Vip

So they are both engravings or ornamentation on pieces of furniture?

A curiosity cabinet... is that a cabinet built to house curiosities, or is it a cabinet that is in itself curious?

smiley - fairy

Post 17

Malabarista - now with added pony

Nothing to do with furniture. A "cabinet", like a "closet", was once a certain type of room, not a storage area smiley - geek Though they did, of course, have furniture in them.

Nnnnnnno.

And who said anything about bringing forth life?

I think you need to figure out what the things in the two pictures are. The second one should be pretty easy, actually...
