They must just not be as obvious as I thougt they were. It's not a map, but it is an illustration of a specific encyclopaedia entry and not just decoration.
What comes out of the ground?
And how is a cyclops like an elephant?

Is picture one meant to illustrate Creationalists views on the evolution from plants at the top (coming first)..
And the second picture an illustration from a later journal made by explorers??? of a dimly seen view of some other creature (again I will refer to what the first people transferred to paper of an animal with a nose for an arm).....
Still.......

Does it illustrate the Entry for a country, like India or Egypt? And the cyclop is one of the strange animals inhabiting them faraway lands?

GT, that's either utterly, utterly wrong or on the right track, depending on how you're thinking.
Not an entry for a country, either - though this particular cyclops is probably from somewhere roughly 1750km away from where Sluperius lived

I'll take it that "crocodiles" wasn't the right line of approach, then. It wasn't a facetious answer though.

Well I was thinking about hatching eggs. But it's clearly wayyyy off.
Taxidermy and natural history are klaxonable, but at this stage I don't mind.

Is it a history book? Is the picture representing the finds and the text is the conclusions that they drew?

Is it a diagram of how you are supposed to conduct an archaological survey?
Okay, serious straw-grasping here.
