I, Pegasus:The Unknown Entity - Bearer of Strange Tidings, thank ye for the warm welcome. After a night of hard travelling, it is much appreciated.
Unfortunately, due to the early hour of this fine morning, I have no strange and wonderous tidings as yet, only strange and wonderous questions. Well, one anyway.
I am unfamiliar with the term "heigh thee hence". What does it mean, and do I require a horse of some kind to complete it? (It sounds like something to do with riding a medieval horse.)

Clive the flying ostrich: Amateur Polymath | Chief Heretic. Posted Mar 16, 2007
'hie thee hence' essentially means 'get going' or 'leave now' - it's archaic and not often used, and can be meant to imply a forceful ejection ie. 'bu**er off' but obviously I didn't mean it in that way just in a friendly sense of trying to say you have been accepted as Thingite so you may depart and join in the conversations in one of our fabulous forums....

Thanks for the explanation. I shall go and join in. Maybe not now, but sometime in the future. I'm still finding my way around at the moment, and I'm not quite sure exactly what I'm doing sometimes.

I *still* don't know what I'm doing, and I'm coming up on my 6th year h2g2 anniversary, and I've been a Thingite for.... Um, was it before I was pregnant or while I was pregnant? I know I was still w*rking for the Treasurer's Office 'cause I was in my cubical... *wanders off muttering*
*Said pregnancy ended with the birth of PaperBaby, who will be 4 on my 6th h2g2 anniversary.

Hello. It's nice to meet another friendly person on h2g2.
Now that I'm a Thingite, can I put the logo thing on my personal space? If yes, how?
I want to join the Thingites!!
Clive the flying ostrich: Amateur Polymath | Chief Heretic. Posted Mar 17, 2007
Certainly can - you'll need to convert your personal space into GuideML which is the editing code of h2g2 and similar to html. Unfortunately embedding pictures like the Thingite logo isn't available if your personal space is still in plain text. The good news is GuideML is dead simple to use - and we are all here to help explain it if you get stuck.
Guideml using tags to perform specific funtions in the text.<></>
All tags have an 'open and 'closed' twin, with a " / ".
Always close an open tag. That is the cardinal rule and will help you to avoid errors. So, for instance, to have your name in bold on your space - you would type something like this:
Hi, my name is Pegasus pleased to meet you.
Everything between the and the will be in BOLD print and the rest will be in normal text.
You can switch any page you create (either a Guide Entry or your Personal Space) into GuideML using the option that is available when you select "edit page".
This will automatically place
in the text edit window. (note this essentially reads: open a guide entry, start the artixle, close the article, close guide entry)
Whatever you place between those tags will appear in the finished Guide entry - write a sentence like "Hi my name is Pegasus" and update and you will see how it works. If you then edit that sentence by using for example your name will be in BOLD when you next update.
Try using the preview option to see how things look and if you are happy with them.
GuideML is quite a powerful tool that lets you create interesting designs like The Manifesto, which I created using GuideML.
The Code for the Thingite logos which you can copy and paste when you feel ready to do so is here: A2079272
The best resource I found when learning how to use GuideML is the Clinic founded by Bruce which is available here: A187229
The Clinic contains a list of all valid GuideML tags which is very useful.
If you click on one of those like the link to footnotes - this will take you to a page explaining how the footnote tags works, giving you examples of it being used and provides you with a sample you can copy and paste into your page that you can experiment with.
I suggest you also take a look at the link in the clinic regarding Picture tags (which will cover how to use the code for the Thingite logo)
Hope that helps, and there's bunches of people who will gladly help out if you need it.
Clive.

*Cloak turns from brown to black, then white*
What the ? Oh right, Daizzy...
I am too evil Why else would I have a spider that eats Thu*sdayites?
: You called? Really master is nice. He gives me good food, and tasty bones to munch on. He can be evil, but he's a nice person really.
Boris, you're spoiling my evil image here.
Nope. Miss Daizzy did that when she took your cloak and turned it white.
Any more of that and you're going back in your tank...
: Sorry.

Pegasus - Neither bird nor plane Posted Mar 23, 2007
Righty ho. It's good to know that I'm talking to the right kind of people. I shall buy an umbrella at once, although so far nothing has exploded when I've been here. Maybe I'm just lucky.
Is there an umbrella smiley?
