A Conversation for The Manifesto for the Campaign to rename Thursday, "Thing"

Sub-Campaign: Ban the acronym IMHO

Post 1

Mr. Legion

...standing for 'in my humble opinion'. This one has ticked me off for years, and now, in my position as Secretary for Evil, I intend to stamp it out. Are you with me? Honestly, how many people *really* believe their opinion is humble? Nobody does! But still they use it...why?

To promote conflict and discord, I propose that we replace the acronym IMHO with IMHEIUO, which stands for 'In my high, exalted, informed, unassailable opinion'. Come on, if you think an opinion is worth voicing, isn't it worth defending with every ounce of your arrogance? Ideally the opinion would be followed by a phrase such as 'you sodding prole', 'you ignorant git', 'you dirt-eating rustic' etc.

IMHEIUO it is the only course of action that makes sense. How can you argue with that?

lol smiley - biggrin I just might start doing that...
I usually write IMO - in my opinion - because my opinions are never very humble. But some schools of thought hold that IMHO stands for in my Honest opinion...

Well, let's see if I can set fire to those schools of thought, and cut down the teachers as they flee the inferno...mmm, vivid imagery.

Hmm.

OK. You're online, I'm online. How do I know what you look like? I don't. Still less do I know what you actually think. So, what makes you (not *you* especially J'au, y'know what I mean) what makes you think that just by putting IMHO in front of your opinion, it makes it any more valid to me? You could be lying. You could just be using it for effect. Honesty *sucks*. And it's relative. Esoecially online.

But IMHEIUO...well, there really isn't any comeback, is there?

mmm...burning teachers...smells like barbecue...smiley - monster

Mr. Legion

Yeah smiley - smiley The whole phrase is just designed to intimidate people into bowing to your opinion - whatever it may be. Of course, it only has uses for evil purposes...smiley - devil

Can you suggest any other words to add on to the phrase? It's a bit of a mouthful already, but every little helps.

I heartily agree with this campaign. 'IMHO' and other such wordchunks are for people who haven't got the imagination to use other words - though I do use BTW occasionally...

However, Thursday's better than Tuesday, I've always reckoned.

*mumbles "day of Thor, day of Thor"*
