Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence Started conversation Jun 14, 2001
Two more researchers have joined the salonistas since we started our last conversation -- a montessori teacher named voxverite and a geographically imprecise renaissance clown named Arlecchino.
And although we are, the rest of us, the same, change is afoot throughout. Exams are being taken by the schoolers, new jobs commenced by some, and home addresses are being changed or simply abandoned. It's comforting to consider how we have this little oasis of civilised conversation here at the atelier, even as the temblors of circumstance alter our real lives.
So here we are, o visitor. A group of people who like to discuss matters of import and purport, always open and welcome to newcomers. We act silly, too, as the occasion demands.

Lil, I think I'm pre-Rennaisance, but you may be correct. Anyhow, Marv, if you only mow your yard one month out of the year, doesn't it get horribly overgrown? Or being in Utah, do you have desert landscaping? In which case, why would you want that English person to fly across the Atlantic and most of the continent to mow your rocks?

Robin Posted Jun 14, 2001
Arl: robin is in batman as is harlequin (sp), i remember you mentioning her in one of your posts about your name.
as for the french at the metro. i went to buy a ticket with a kiwi friend, now i have a slightly english tint to my accent, so the guy behind the counter completely ignored me. but then my friend said in his best kiwi accent. " don't worry about her she's a pom", and we got the correct tickets right away. they do have a thing about the english.

How do they feel about Americans? And Robin, I hate to be rude, but your name is completely non-gender specific. Are you male or female?

Mowing lawns? Yech!!!!
Lil, my folks are building on the old site...they're getting a prefab, so they should be in a house by the first of August. So that's good.

Arl, I live with three other friends. We take turns doing yardwork. July is my month this summer. And while Utah is mostly desert the Salt Lake valley is not really. It still has little enough rain to count as desert but there is massive irrigation so there are far too many trees and lawns. When I buy my own house (looooong time away) I will use bermuda grass as turf as it requires less water and little care.
Well off to sleep and tomorrow morning I am going to some tech show here in SLC.

Bookmarking intothe new thread and wondering if Bermuda grass would survive in UK weather as anything would be better than the current state of his lawn... (The weeds have won)

Hi folks
I'm so happy to have loged in - still great problems with this - I don't know what happens
Anyway: nice to meet you, Arlecchino I'm Kasia and used to be more often around then now, but as I'm an optimistic person, I do hope it will be better soon...
Matina, may I have an Irish , please?

Phew! Backlog, the price to pay for a day off..!
I'll just join the corus then:
Keep up your spirits G7, happy belated birthday Montana, and welcome Arlecchino.
I wish I learned French in school, but telling them I'm Norwegian makes them open up quite easily.
More and more chooses Spanish as their second or third language in here, I'm not sure why.
We're going to invest in a new lawn mower this weekend, it's getting emberrasing to borrow the house-next-door's mower three years in a row....And the sheep only ate the dandelions..
Matina, a with milk, please.

A sheep?
I learnt French at school for, what, five years? And I am proud to say the only thing I can be relied on to say is 'Can I have a kilo of tomatoes, please?' in a horrendous London accent.
I can say five things in German though.

We had a congregation of wooly volunteers in the garden last weekend. (See my journal for the full story.)
Since it didn't work out we have to go for the more technical solution.....

Sol Posted Jun 14, 2001
That should have been a nice green solution to the endless cutting the lawn saga... But apparently not. I'll pootle of and look at your journal now.
My boyfriend uses a sythe. You can see why we aren't going to the village this summer, can't you...

Having forgot most of the languages the school system tried to teach me (I'd forgotten them before the exams mostly ) I do wish I could have had an easier time of it
I've not actually been and stayed in France but I spent some time in Belgium (great beers ) and would be greeted in anything choice of french, english, german, flemish depending on what they thought I might understand!
Sea, going away to college is hard work but well worth the effort I found.

Bumble, I'm still waiting for those sheep. I can send them off to Utah once I'm through with them, unless Chris wants to stop in New Jersey on his way to Utah to take care of my lawn too. I'll even make him a sandwich.
Is peanut butter and jelly OK?

Chris Tonks Posted Jun 14, 2001
What ho, all! Just had my last exam for the week, so I have time to type up that story the Prof's going through (GalaGroup Election's tomorrow, you see).
Hmm, sounds tempting, d'E. Peanut butter and jelly will be fine. I guess I'll try to head over to Utah and stop by, but I'll have to fiddle around with our travel arrangements on route to Paris.
Cheers for the advice, SPINY, I'm sure it'll come in handy! So, I just need to be polite, eh? No problems, it's in my nature.
*Swears horribly at a fly that's just landed on his monitor.*
And I hope you stick around, Kasia! How's your Memory Mirror thingy coming along?

Bumblebee Posted Jun 14, 2001
I'd go for the Chris-solution, d'E. The sheep are not recommendable! They only ate the dandelions, and hardly touched the grass.
Though I must admit it looks a bit greener and tidyer without all the flowers..

France is fine, I had a day trip there at the weekend and they were all very pleasent, even when greeted by my appaling French.
ooo, nearly forgot; [Munchkin, recommending deer if you want your lawn cleared]
