My dictionary has this to say:
lous|e, n. (pl. lice). Kinds of parasitic insect.

Interesting. I'll check it up on the taxonomy site that I used last year because people (even dictionary writers) are lax about the use of the word "insect".

Oh dear. There was a very high death toll amongst the birds.
I've just started on the mammals. Lil, what is Springie's U number? I forgot to link her properly.

How about this then?
From a site I have just found:
"Lice belong to the order Phthiraptera, and are the only truly parasitic group amongst the exopterygote insects."
Do you want more info? I can email the link to your leeds email if you want?

Must be hard but you are more than welcome
Well, I'll leave you to it. Time for me to head home soon (thankfully). But leave me a note if you want a note of the sites I found. Ok? Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Bye.
*trudges in and slumps into the sofa*
Let that be the last Saturday I have to work this year.

Y'all don't worry about making a mess. We have bots for doing the cleaning here, and, unlike parents, they don't make moral judgements.
I'm reorganising too, today. I want to get my website restructured so that people can access the personal stuff without having to know URLs in advance...
And the new road warrior machine arrived today!! My 3rd consecutive Toshiba Satellite. But this one is a P-III 800MHz with 384 MB of RAM, a 20GB hard drive and a DVDCDRW drive and, and... It's unbelievable how powerful the little machines are now. I stood there holding it and admiring the styling, and I suddenly thought, there are about a dozen Bletchley Parks inside this case.
But it may be all I have for several months, until I have a fixed address again.
Well now, who's up for a little walk to the beach for a campfire and swimming and hot dogs and Sol's marshmallows and stuff? It's a holiday weekend over here in the States.

*trudges in dragging a large sack*
Anyone any idea what I can do with three dead giraffes?

Fern the Firelizard Posted May 26, 2001
Three giraffes? Looks like carelessness to me.
Matina, an orange juice and two apricots, please. I'll have them out on the veranda.
*swoops outside and land on a comfortable chair in the sunshine*
Has anyone seen that rat?

*Affy storms up the stairs with two worker droids and two security droids*
Hi, everyone! I've just got to come up here and put a stop to some havoc in the space/time continuum.
*Affy points at the barrel of phlog and snaps his fingers. The security droids lift it up, and carry it down the stairs*
Sorry, but it's a highly dangerous situation when non-magical life forms consume phlog. Fortunately, it seems that some mild temporal confusion was the only thing that went wrong. But we're very lucky: we could've easily had another reason to call this part of h2g2 "The Crater".
Now then....Droids, go check out all of the wormholes that I told you about, and set up some temporal stabilizers. We don't want a black hole to suddenly pop into existence because of this, after all.
*Affy sits on the couch and smiles*
I'm gonna cheat a bit, and call this an adventure thread.

Mind the blue powder, dear. I did adulterate that barrel with saxophone dust. I guess it was a subconsciously destructive thing, after you said you were opting out of so much of h2g2 life. But I'm glad you're back, just a little bit.
*watches as a green runner works its way toward Affi's left shoe*
Do you have a phlog-substitute downstairs that we could contaminate? I have a bit of dust that Sporky didn't find, and the saxophone is ... somewhere safe.
Amy, I bet the gardener bot could mulch those giraffes. But BSE Farms would have to use the resulting compost, cos I think it would smell a bit strong. Anyway, what with giraffes being charismatic megafauna, shouldn't we accord them a proper burial?
I think we should have fireworks tonight, too. If Affy is going to be around at all.

Ooh fireworks .
I have disposed of the giraffes. I had some whales and dragons to dispose of too so I dug up a disused airfield.
The whole process was very saddening but I did find Ox. He has been back long enough to reactivate his account at least. And Kumabear is back too.
