I have FINALLY managed to fit in my contribution! I gather there have been quite a few submissions, Avatar? Can't wait to see the results so far
I got a feeling I should move this thread. It feels massive, but I don't actually have to do that much clicking to get to the latest posts. Either way, I'm going to start a new thread. See you guys there!

I'm doing the next rotation as we speak, but lets just say its looking good for the orks, and a virtual stale mate on all other fronts

The orks may have a victory, but in my opinion in the long run they're screwed. The orks already lost a lot of units, and now that the food supply is out for the Imperium they'll probably attack soon before they start starving. With their ships taken out, the orks can't get off planet, meaning they'll have to fight. Personally, I'd try and beat them into a retreat into the chaos armies and let them beat each other up for a while. That would probably get rid of the orks and weaken the chaos for an easier and faster battle.
Granted, this takes into account a lot of stuff that there aren't exactly rules for... but you said we could sort of make it up.

The orks are very tough, and it wouldn't take a miricle to get a few ships space worthy, though i agree unless the chaos forces tie the imperium up for a while the orks can only do what they do best, fight like hell. A virus bomb could be used if the orks completely over run the planet, but that would only happen in the direst of cases as it would destroy the food supply for light years around.
It's been suprisingly slow work writing the second episode, but it should be up on my site by monday.

Hey everyone. What happened to the conversation? Anyway...
I've recently started work on a set of wargaming rules of my own. I'm still slogging through infantry rules and haven't even got to vehicles or weapons yet, but things are developing nicely. The game is similar to Warhammer 40k, but is more flexible and will probably play much faster. The main differences are:
Designed for use with 20-sided dice.
There are multiple classes of infantry and vehicles which have different rates of movement. (Light/Standard/Heavy Infantry, Light/Standard/Heavy Vehicles, Light/Heavy Walkers)
Units will have the option of extra movement instead of a shooting phase.
There are 5 types of weapons with 9 possible characteristics. (Semi-Automatic/Automatic/Heavy/Pistol/Artillary, Flamer/Blast/Artillary Blast/Shotgun/Line/Dissapate/Normal/Close Combat Normal/Close Combat Piercing)
Many of the more complex aspects of WH40k will be simplified too, though I'm not sure how much. I need to work them out first.

That sounds dammed cool. What kind of background does it have?
Funnily enough... I was looking at modifying the 40k rules for use in Vietnam wargaming. I was going to use a sort of "different-game-rules-mega-mix" approach; just nicking the best bits of lots of different games and slapping em together into a vaguely workable whole. I really ought to look at that again because I bought a load of Hueys and they're cluttering the place up so I'd like to use them for something.

Setting: Sometime around the year 2650, on Earth. After the Earth was hit by an asteroid of just-under worldkiller size (that's 2 miles or more in diameter, big enough to kill every life form on the planet down to the bacteria) in roughly 2300, most of the Earth's population, indeed all but the hardiest plants and animals, have been killed or died out in the resulting years when the Earth was shrouded in dust clouds, blocking the sunlight. In those centuries, mankind was reduced to sparse tribes, and the only surviving technology is that which has been found since the impact. Now, these tribes have risen to mighty clans, warring over dwindling resources and lost technology in a struggle for survival.
Sounds good, eh? The models will be sort of Mad Max-ish, if you've seen those movies. That's about the level of advancement in the current-day setting, plus of course the more advanced technology that was developed before impact and found again later. There'll bee a wide variety of weapons, everything from swords and clubs to rifles and shotguns to laser and plasma cannons.

That sound like it'll kickass! Are you going to publish it?

We'll see if I can get the rules all worked out first... It's not easy, not easy at all. The hardest part is that you have to allow for everything, outline every detail precisely so there isn't any question about special situations. I'll need to do a lot of revising before getting a "final" set of rules. If you want, you can see what rules I have written out here. It's not nearly complete, but I'll post updates when I write them.
