Fart is hardly new. Benjamin Franklin, who died more than 200 years ago, published a book called "Fart proudly." The word may well have existed before Ben's time, but of course *all* the words we have are new when measured by geological time.

I confess that I only heard about it. Haven't read it at all. I suspect that Ben published it under an alias.

When my son was young, and knowing he was longing to use rude words, I told him that "I never, ever wanted to hear him use the word 'balderdash', it being a truly disgusting word! It worked for a bit and spread amongst his friends. Then when they all got onto Harry Potter, they realized I was having them on.

Nyah! Too many two worded words.
'Jai Ho is more of a term, than a word. And Web 2.0 is two seperate terms!!!
N00b on the other hand is a word... Kind of.

I don't know it this can be added but the phrase 'mission statement', it became the in thing for companies from late 90's to produce their own 'mission statement' in their pr drive.

el D: 1238 is old:
"We do not know the origin of hornswoggle. We do know that it belongs to a group of “fancified” words that were particularly popular in the American West in the 19th century. Hornswoggle is one of the earliest, first appearing around 1829. It is possible that these words were invented to poke fun at the more “sophisticated” East. " (Answers.com)
But old new words are at least as interesting as new new ones
