Kind of ran out of steam with this one, although it is a lot better than the original (Flea Market). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I say, did anybody notice that rather clever inadvertant play on words?

I'd say it's pretty good.
One catch here (for the purposes of getting good crit - I'm not saying there's any weakness in the piece itself) is that you're describing the history of a genre that nobody sticks with forever. OK, there are maybe people around who knew all of these games in all of their heydays and on all of their platforms, but they're probably not going to be denizens of hootoo, are they?
I guess if you're going to chart all the re-hashings of the originals, then Halo 2 should be in there as well.
There are a few nasty but well-documented cases of FPS-addicted individuals criminally acting out the stories in RL, of course. I wouldn't go there as a main theme, but it might be worth a quick mention, even if just to quell the subject. If you're going for PR with this, you can bet it'll come up.
Well done, anyhow. A worthy Flea Market rescue (and I'm glad I'm not the only shameless misuser of computing power round these parts)

Is Halo 2 groundbreaking at all? Not played it myself. I only included the re-hashings and sequels that were all new and shiny and ace (thus the lack of Doom 2).
I'll include the tabloid hysteria a bit more as it is an important part of the FPS' history.
Apparently Tony Banks (MP for somewhere-or-other) recently made the claim that video games are more morally degrading than child porn!

Not sure about how ground-breaking Halo 2 is, because I never played the original in multiplayer mode. It's certainly good, though - stunning graphics. Less of a story than the original. I'm a sucker for the Flood, though (so to speak)

Criminally Goldeneye didn't get a mention. It was the first mega-popular console shooter with 4-player multiplay option. Not to mention the fact it is still widely considered one of the best FPS games ever made.

Can't really say anything about GoldenEye as I've never played it...

GoldenEye is certainly a classic.
One of my brood (Verminette) is a devotee, on her N64. Were there other platforms?
We've only got two controllers, though, so the 4-player mode is untried.

I've got GoldenEye. It's very good except for a slight iffiness of graphics and control.
Wasn't there another thingy after the Quake sytem? I can't remember what though..this is going to bother me. I'll look up some games and find out what system they use. Bother bother bother I can't find it!!

GoldenEye 007 for the Nintendo 64 was an undoubtable success for Rareware in 1997. Bringing the glamour and vast variety of weaponry available to James Bond to your control, the game has been said by some to be the best FPS released for the N64. Following the chronology of the film, Golden Eye, the player must shoot, fight, sneak, and explode their way through 20 missions, with three levels of difficulty. The game also became famous for its simple controls and addictiveness. There are a few graphics problems (as with many of the early games using complicated 3D graphics) causing features to sometimes look slightly strange, but overall it's realistic, with guards sounding alarms, with only the occassional moron running around in circles. The multiplayer options are perhaps the best feature of this game however. There are 6 different styles of play for up to four players, with eleven arenas to choose from and a wide variety of weapons and combinations to use. Many still claim it to be the best Bond game ever published, but that of course is up to the player.

" but overall it's realistic, with guards sounding alarms, with only the occassional moron running around in circles."
but over all it's realistic, guards sound alarms when they see you and only the occassional moron ends up running around in circles.

Hurrah!
Currently working on your GoldenEye write-up so it fits the style of the rest of the entry better... probably ready by the end of the week.

How much do you want on Halo 2?
(Will try to get something out of Verm. Guessing about four of five sentences will suffice, so say if not)

The release of Halo 2 for the XBox in 2004 was, according to your point of view, hugely anticipated or massively hyped. The main extension from its predecessor is the on-line multiplayer mode, which includes novel statistics recording at the Bungie website. New gameplay features include dual-wielding (you can tote two weapons at once) and many vehicle enhancements such as a hijack capability. If you’re a devotee of the Master Chief, you might be dismayed to discover that you’re in his armour just half the time in story mode. For the rest of the adventure, you play a disgraced Covenant captain known as the Arbiter. Whether you’re slaughtering aliens or marines, though, you’ll find your adversaries to be diverse and convincingly self-willed. Some are new, and some are familiar : the Flood is back, naturally, still compellingly gross and pervasive. The graphics and the AI in this game are of a very high standard, and the storyline is as clever as the first time around - if a little short. The multiplayer experience of Halo 2 is simply exceptional.
This any good to you?

I'm not entirely sure, but i do think that there was dual wielding in the original halo. If i remember rightly, it was one of it's big gimmicks. I have never played the game though so i can;t be sure.

'Wasn't there another thingy after the Quake sytem?'
If you're referring to Trinity, it never happened. id moved straight from Q3A to Doom 3.
Unless you're thinking of Daikatana...
I'll have a look at the Entry when I have more time (i.e. after the end of the Durham University term).
