"A radar gun shoots short bursts of high frequency radio waves, then listenes for the reflections. The doppler shift of the reflection is a measure for the speed of the vehicle.

I just think of them as electronic bats - of a sort. The detection and measuring is similar.

"And as far as I know a gun fires, the person behind it shoots. As for the camera it takes a picture or makes an image where the photographer shoots the pictures. Well, that will be my non native tongue 
messing things up.
