You can delete all the details except for a sign saying that you've left, with perhaps information that your friends can use to get in touch with you. 
Chances are, your friends will try to talk you out of leaving. I've seen this happen in many cases.

On a Mac you highlight 'this account' then press the back button and viola! 'This account'. Gone. Deleted.

"You can not really delete an account, the best you can do is reset it to zero . . .
Even then we will remember your presence. Only again some more potholes will remain in the structure of the Guide.
It is like a brick wall, you can not really remove a single brick without infringing with the structure.
