Why do we always have to eat first?
KB Started conversation Sep 3, 2015
I hate having to eat first! I'd rather sleep first.
Why not eat afterwards, when you really want to?

Ok, I'll fall for it (after all, I am on Crasswatch today)
Eat/Sleep Before/After ... what?

I wasn't talking about one thing in particular, but just anything that takes place in the evening. It might be going to a gig, it might be going to see a film, it might be sex, but no matter what it is, people always want to eat first, then do whatever it is. I'm never that hungry until afterwards, though.

For me, the meal is the last thing of the day. I like my dinner as late as possible so we never eat before 8 and often as late as 9:30.

I don't think there's a right or wrong way to do this. Maybe people are creature of habit? They get used to the routine, and so they stay with it. Professional singers tend to eat *after* performances, from what I've noticed. By the time the performances are over and they do get to eat, they're apt to be so ravenous that they overeat. It doesn't surprise me that so many of them are carrying extra pounds. Still, I would not have begrudged Pavarotti all the pasta he wanted.

I don't like eating too late at night. I like to give the food a chance to 'go down' before I go to bed. As I like to be in bed around 10pm, and no later than 11pm, I prefer not to eat a big meal after 8pm. This probably affects what I do if I go to the theatre/a concert/whatever.
I know that there are restaurants in London (and probably in Stratford-upon-Avon) that cater for theatre-goers who want to eat after the performance, but by the time the show is over all I want to do is go home.

Its... so binary... 'before' OR 'after'.
both, is, of course, the correct answer. and often, twice at each, with a suitable gap, of course. sleep. wake up, breakfast one. stuff, then breakfast two. then lunch. stuff. then lunch two. then asfternoon tea, stuff, then dinner, then stuff, then supper one, then supper two; and supper three, as and if requried; of course, if there's a meal inbetween a slsplit nights sleep, that just becomes breakfast one of three, naturally.
Mind, the eating before doing stuff in the evening, has to be related to most decent places to eat, closing so damn early... - past midnight, and the only food availible is useually... pretty dire

I like to get my evening routines out of the way before I eat. So when I get home, I walk the dog, call the family, prepare tomorrow's lunch and have a shower before cooking tea in my pyjamas. This means I usually eat around 7.30/8pm. But if I'm going out I'd rather eat first then maybe have a snack afterwards if I'm hungry.

Join a keep fit or yoga club. You can't do exercises on a full stomach. You *have* to eat afterwards.
I certainly prefer to get everything done in the morning or afternoon before I start to think about eating. Which means that I have one hungry, grumpy housemate most of the time.

Nothing like a good pre-dinner nap. And also a post-breakfast nap. I guess I swing both ways on this matter

There are some things that should not be done simultaneously:
--chewing gum and crossing the street.
--thinking of something funny enough to make you laugh while you're swimming laps.
--Texting while driving a car across an obstacle course.
--talking and eating
--sleeping and eating
Does that about cover it? Have I left anything out?
