Chrome; slower than a snail on marijuana

I realise that if one googles (other search engines are available..)'chrome slow' you get a similar rash of results as googling 'firefox slow' or 'IE slow', so maybe it's just me... but anyone else here finding chrome taking *ages* to do anything? Ages to start up, ages to open new tabs, ages to close down.. smiley - yawn It also tends to freeze the whole browser whilst opening links..

Upon switching back to firefox, everything happens instantly again smiley - magic the way a modern browser should. I originally switched from firefox because it was slow, now it seems lightening fast. and yes I regularily clear the cash and other housekeeping stuff.

Anyone else noticed this?

One forum suggested switching off the 'phishing scanning' option, which scans every page. I think it helped, a bitsmiley - erm Anyhow, my default browser is now firefox. I'll retry chrome in a year or two to see if it's improved.

I've been using chrome more or less constantly since it launched around 2008, so it's quite a big deal for me to get used to another browser again, but there's only so much fiddling under the bonnet i'm prepared to do to get such a basic tool as a browser, to work properly. ho hum.smiley - shrug

yeah, well I used to be unbearably smug about being a chrome-user, but now... , I just feel like a fool and a loser for ever believing all the 'chrome is fast' hype smiley - winkeye

It's probably some obscure interplay between an add-on or extension within my particular operating environment and I could probably try disabling things one at a time to try to track down the problem... I could, but life being too short and all that, and the availability of other browsers... Just wondered if anyone else on 'ere had similar issues. Evidently not!

Gnomon - time to move on

I've always found Chrome very fast, but I haven't used it recently.

Not having any problems myself. Just benched on a few graphics heavy websites and chromes as quick or quicker (to my eye at least) as Safari, Firefox and IE10

The chrome icon on my launch bar disappeared yesterday and I could
not reach my computer's homepage, the Google Doodle Search page. I had
to search 'google.ca' via IE and that came up as the multi-link 'new tab' page
showing icons for all the google apps including the search page. But I could
not drag it into my quick launch tool bar.

This morning the icon was back but goes directly to my h2g2 homepage.

It's bad enough google presumes everything I put into its search box
before I finish typing but now it figures I only want to visit h2g2.

What's a cyber hunter-gatherer to do?
