The use to which my wheelie bin appears to be being put.
Have been a little mystified of late, by the regular occurance of dfinding a down-and-out type tramp druggy alco sort sitting on my upturned, never used recycling bin (would still like to know how one is supposed to find out what is meant to go in the recycling box).
Then a few times, noticed quite a lot of mess outside my front door, more than useual....
Tonight, found druggy looking through my dustbin. some vague mutter about he'd misplaced a bag.
Often hear people near my front door, late at night, long after the shops have closed.
The local drug dealer is clearly using my wheelie bin as a drop off point for their drugs. the random tramp/druggy looking through it, clearly knew this and was just hoping he might find something of interest.
So. What should I do about this? (I can't put the bins anywhere else, or out of way, and my house opens straight onto the pvement/street)

If they're willing to put up with the rubbish I put in, I'm not sure the cat littre would put them off any more

Either get a real CCTV camera aimed at the bin and make recordings - or a dummy one. It might just deter the more scaredy cat types who won't want their faces and actions on tape. Attach it well out of reach, maybe on your balcony?
Make friends with your local community bobby and invite him/her in for a cup of tea on a regular basis. Once they've tasted some of your fresh bread they will be round there all the time. Seriously though, ring them and tell them of your concerns. I'd hate you to get busted for someone else's drugs.

Have you not thought of calling the police?

Adopt the psuedonym 'Paul Kersey', get yourself a bigass handgun, and go to work cleaning up those mean streets.
Failing that, a hidden speaker playing classical music might work. They used the technique to good effect in areas where the 'bad element' congregate and it apparently drives them away. But then, they just become someone elses problem.
Or- why not make a tray of lovely bacon sandwiches, take 'em down and see who has the munchies?

Call the police? so they can take my cut of the profets?! I can't really put a flood light out there, its a funny shaped building, and I'd probably be breaking some stuid rule on the leashold.... there is allready a lot of light down there, though, from the chinese next door...
the classical music idea I likes though
I've about ten billion speakers and bits of hifi gear and I'm sure Icould bodge something together to piss them off in that area
maybe some really boring 'putting you on hold' style classical music, nothing too exciting...
or... yes. light opera and musicals. they'll hate it
damn... maybe I am a bit of masachist afterall
the best of loid webber perhaps....
hmmm... if Iwire the old arcam up to a set of the kefs, and run an old PC in the hallway, set on constant loops through the amp, to the keffs... yes... we have the technology!

Smack my b'tch up- Prodigy (praps too literal for the criminal fraternity, that one!)
Drugs don't work- Verve (or the Ben Folds version and see 'em all run like rats!)
Caught By The Fuzz- Supergrass.

You could try throwing away small packages containing bromide pills, but this could only be considered a long term solution.

You have a Chinese restaurant next door?
Perhaps the prowlers are just looking for food scraps.
Chinese restaurants throw out a lot of food.

2legs, why not stand beside the bin with your whip, and roar as loud as you can? It would scare off all but the most determined...And maybe even suggest that if *that* scares them, it's only gonna get worse in prison.

Simple this one.
Just report the offending rotters to your local 'Green team' (Making recyling a priority)
Where the police have only powers to arrest, fine or sit the offender on the naughty step, these boys have some serious power.
For incorrect use of a recycling bin the most lenient sentance round these parts is deportation. No lies. My next door neighbour put some batteries in her green bin once...........gone!
