Oy, , or even and windmills is not a pretty Monday-morning piccy.
(Another smiley that needs making ...)

Windmills of your mind is a great song. It's unusual, in my opinion, for having so many quite different versions of wildly varying quality (there are other such songs, but none that I like as much as I like this, done well). It's also unusual in that I think the "original", as in most commonly referred to, version, i.e. the one for the original Thomas Crown Affair, is one of the worst. Three far, far superior versions are the one by Dusty Springfield, the version Sting did for the remake of the film, and the slightly reworded version by Alison Moyet.

Windmills of your mind is a totally wonderful song. It's one of the all time tragic songs.

What do people think about 'Sporting Occasion' playing when you enter the Pit?

I could imagine us being like nothing else on the web.
Yes we could have any tune..that people want.
It would be so cool to have music blaring out as you entered this special sector.

We should have a theme song for noohootoo.

I'm nominating 'Sporting Occasion'?
Now I've bought it from iTunes I'd happily share it if I knew how. Though I've a funny feeling no-one else would much care for it.
I think it's totally

Just bumping this because this discussion is, happily, no longer hypothetical.

I'm catching up on the backlog. Reply to post 101.
Icy North: Hell, if we're going to have segregated areas, why have them on the same site?
Exactly. We know the DNA software can run multiple sites. It would be no effort to make it run multiple sites on different domain names. And the login system needs to be rebuilt anyway, so the integrated login solution with OpenID which I described a while ago would work fine for that. F20154027?thread=8074058.
I would personally find words which attack groups of people far more offensive than "bad language". It's the "scatter-gun effect": these words affect far more people than the person you're actually aiming to insult. Also, they're usually poking at disenfranchised minorities.

I think taking bad behaviour off site is not a good idea, especially if it involves removing whole threads.
I'd really like to see these ideas discussed again once we're settled at noesis and see if we can develop something that the community in general feels comfortable with. There's been a range of ideas put out, not all of them are coherent, and we'd need to get much clearer about what people want and what could work.

I am a little surprised that this has generated such vigorous debate. I for one would be delighted for the site to continue with as little change as possible, idiosyncratic as it may be from time to time.
We have after all maintained a tradition here of complaining every time that Auntie has made the odd change.
If I want to behave in a way that is 'un-hootoo', I can go somewhere else and do it.
One of the things that has bound us all together here over the years has been the basic tenet of the place.
It's mostly harmless.
