h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I've just started Oblivion. I was going to wait until I'd completed FFVII again, but couldn't wait.

As you can't invert x, I spend most of my time spinning the wrong way and backing into enemies etc., but I'm getting used to it slowly and now I've figured out how to play it in third person rather than first it's all going much better. I have a feeling it's a PC game ported onto the PS3, but it doesn't stop it being a good game.

I'm about six hours in and am astounded as to how big it feels. My character has developed completely differently to the way I expected (I'm in the Thieves' Guild now, and fight hand to hand ) which is brilliant, and I'm starting to get into missions and stuff. I've cleared out two Oblivion portanls so far but can't be bothered to tackle the third and fourth I've found.

I got Oblivion back in June for PS3 and I havent joined a guild and not managed to destroy any portals yet!! I must be doing it wrong

Jaysus New Vegas is good.... most annoying that bad back prevented me playing too much over the weekend and work has got in the way today...

On the whole Fallout 3.5 thing the closest analogy as I see it is that between GTA3 and Vice City. Now hopefully that means we are shortly due for the fallout equivilant of San Andreas ....

Interesting comment on Oblivion - my criticism of it was that it was obviously developed with consoles in mind rather than PCs. It has much more of a console game feel to it, mainly that the interface is much simplified from morrowind and the whole thing just feels less, I dunno, geeky really. I mean from daggarfall on the elder scrolls games became more polished but less geeky with each new one. Oblivion was very pretty and quite good but not big enough and I think they paid too much attention to the visuals. Doesn't have the replay value of morrowind.

FFNV - having fun in my personal mission to eradicate the Legion wherever I find them Sniping is fun but then so is a .44 magnum to the head. (but only in a game dear mods, only in a game!)

We're currently replaying Oblivion, when our son isn't around/awake, only because we daren't play New Vegas without him - he'd cry, like the eight year old boy he is

I need to get back to Oblivion, but my laptop screen is so tiny...

My housemate bought Dead Rising 2.

Fun, fluffy. Interesting. Think I'll have a crack at it myself soon but lots of repetition, looks like it'll get annoying quickly.

DR2 is excellent fun. Slicing up zombies with chainsaws attached to your motorbike never gets dull.

Minecraft singleplayer. Damn creepers keep ruining my grand plans!

To be honest the only game I'm constantly going back to at the moment is Backyard Monsters on faceb**k. it's not *quite* as annoying as other facebook games (I refuse to take part in anything ending in 'ville' or starting with 'mafia') and is quite cute too.

That and dipping into Kongregate regularly.

Alien Swarm. Nearly 200hours on it now, I've also been playing League Of Legends.

Been playing 'Rastan' on an Xbox compilation ('Taito Legends') again. Brilliant arcade game, although it took me an embarrassingly long time to clear the first level (those bats!).

Minecraft full game now and when he gets the Halloween update wroking properly on the servers that will be awesome. Not sure if I'll be able to host a 2 man server then though.

I've also got a custom skin, http://minecraft.net/skin/skin.jsp?user=menthol_penguin for myself. (hope that works, I can't see my skin atm).

The other game I've got at the moment is AI Wars (on steam). Fight AI Ships and take over their home sectors but as you fight them/take over some sectors their progress increases so they have more powerful ships and are a bigger threat. Pick fights wisely. You can unlock tech and new ships etc. Very cool game and the money from the DLC goes to Childs Play.

Damn - that Minecraft really is addictive. I bought it a few days ago and I've already had two midnight-7am sessions! D'oh! Apparently the guy that made it has already made 4m euros from it - and it's still in alpha.

Eeek! Minecraft's turned MP into a zombie!

The zombie groans are incredibly scary at night, maybe if I am on their side then they won't attack me.

Possible ringtone though, wouldn't miss my phone ringing again though.

Just about finished New Vegas, having weighed in with just south of 70 hours..

Curse you Bethesda games!

Not if Bethesda make the next one. New Vegas felt like Fallout. I'm still not sure what FO3 was all about.

I think FO3 was proof of concept.
A case of - we have a good RPG 1st/3rd person engine, proven to be well respected and enjoyed via Oblivion.
We have a well respected genre/tiel in FallOut.
Let's bung the 2 together and see if it works.

More about finding out if a post apocalyptic RPD would work in 1st person. And it did, very well. So then decided to do it properly. FO3 feels very small and limited now!

I think that is probably what I like best about New Vegas, it has such a rich and overlapping story structure with so many different things to do.

In fact my main gripe about FO3 was how it didn't have the kind of "guild quests" from Oblivion that I so loved. And in New Vegas we get that.

All the same I have faith in Bethesda and cannot wait for Elder Scrolls 5 if and when that ever actually comes out!
