Charles and Camilla!
The Groob Posted Feb 10, 2005
It's interesting to hear it said: "the palace has worked hard to make Camilla PB liked by the public".
I'm no ardent royalist, but what has she actually done wrong to make her unpopular other than being less pretty than 'the other one'?

This is great news!
This will bury the gossip yesterday about his Duchy of Cornwall income, right into the cobwebbed corners!
I'm betting on the title of "Duchess of Cornwall" - or maybe a Scottish title.
Princess of Wales she won't be, even though she'll be entitled to it - in deference to the feelings of Charles' sons.
April 6th...and no doubt, in Scotland *glued to the tv for announcement from Clarence House*

Under current law doesn't that forbid Charles from taking the throne? I thought there was something along the lines of heirs to the throne being excluded from the throne if they marry divorcees or Catholics? If so I can see that law being repealed pretty quickly then

MrsCloud Posted Feb 10, 2005
Shes unpopular because she was "the third person in the marriage"

Is mise Duncan Posted Feb 10, 2005
Is he going to abdicate (in advance) then? Or is that kind of honour a relic of a bygone era?

Geggs Posted Feb 10, 2005
As I recall Catholics are forbidden, but I'm not sure about divorcees. After all, Henry VIII created the Church of England so that he could re-marry after divorcing, so I'm not sure of the whole position.

Yes but there was the whole Edward VIII/Wallis Simpson affair in the 1930s.

Geggs Posted Feb 10, 2005
True, but I'm not entirely sure of the reasons for that. It could just have be because she was an American.

Charles won't have to give up his birthright if he marries Camilla.
She will be "Princess Consort" - Queen Victoria's husband was Prince Consort.
I was right about the title Duchess of Cornwall, obviously the Queen took my advice
Unfortunately BBC News 24 got the date wrong, it's not the 6th April it's the 8th April.
Didn't Blair look happy during his announcement?
Kinda took press attention away from his own meeting with Kofi Annan at Downing Street today.
Charles looking at wedding rings and asking which are the 9ct ones, what a hoot
They're saying on BBC News 24 there will "never be another Princess of Wales" but that is ridiculous.
When Charles is King, William will inherit the title Prince of Wales, and his (future) bride will be Princess of Wales, rightly so.
The only objection to that would be if it's Britney Spears on wedding number 3...

Evidence if it was needed that the BBC is going tabloid. The World at One has just had an extended 60 minute programme dedicated to this marriage when they themselves admit that half the country coudn't care less. Pompous priests pontificating that it can't be allowed as if the church now had any sort of popular mandate. And at the end of the day, because we don't have a written constitution, Charles, once he's got mumsie's permission, can do what ever he wants. Who would have thought Radio 4 would put itself in the same league as The Sun, Mail and Mirror.
Pass me my coat.

Camilla is not a Roman Catholic. Andrew Parker Bowles is, and they married in an RC church, but she is not and never has been Roman Catholic.

MrsCloud Posted Feb 10, 2005
I think it's more of an issue that she is a divorcee, or at least that was the impression I got.

queenofwands Posted Feb 10, 2005
I think that they probably deserve each other, to be honest if the Queen is as tough as her mother Charles will never sit on the English throne, and there is always a chance that Tony Blair will wangle his way on to it first!

The Queen has just announced that she's not going to attend the civil ceremony.
They should call the whole shambles off.
What with the eclipse of the sun that day, and a comet still viewable in the skies...very bad omens!!
