Do you think that:
1. Monty Python is just elitist, stupid rubbish
2. Monty Python is quite clearly brilliant

Quite clearly brilliant.
But of course you have to be a member of the elite to appreciate that .

Mostly brilliant.
And it is about as elitist as Jim Davidson. Or at least in the same way.

What is elitist about knocking a man into a river with a giant fish?

Depends what mood I'm in.
It can be a breath of fresh air, even nearly 30 years on;
or, if I'm the other way out, it's stale and I've heard them all before.
Compare with Little Britain, which I watched a few weeks ago and couldn't find a single thing to laugh at. I accuse the critics who like it of having a terminal case of "The Emperor's New Clothes"!
And don't get me started on the last series of Stench and Faunders. I'm sorry, I've liked them more on than off for years and DF is a babe of the first order, but the last offering should have been left as a rejected idea!

A little of 1, a little of 2.
Why do we have to believe that either option is the only way of looking at things?

Monty Python is quite clearly brilliantly stupid and in no way could you come to a conclusion that it was elitist unless you knew the team came from Oxbridge. As did The Goodies team(They worked together On I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again.) All insanely brilliant. but tell me that is elitist and I will laugh in your face and as Grahame Garden And Tim Brooke-Taylor came up with the idea for I'm Sorry I haven't a Clue you can hardly say that is elitist (OK, my mum doesn't understand what the hell is going on and sits there confused but thats my mum for you who didn't even like Morecambe and Wise - and I came from her womb)

Just a curiosity that stemmed from another thread where one researcher thought 1) and said that they felt they weren't alone on hootoo in thinking so. The other researcher who thought 2) said this would be difficult to prove. So I thought I'd just ask you all.
I'm also a 2. Elitist? Who me?

We could replace 'elitist' with 'humour I do not understand'.
For me Vic Reeves Big Night could have been called elitist for me as I did not understand it - I probably would understand it now as they have clicked with me so I want to watch them again.
