What Music at your Funeral?
novosibirsk - as normal as I can be........ Started conversation Apr 9, 2008
Morning All,
Just nmusing gently having read the post about funeral music..... I think as my coffin disappears through the Crematorial Curtains Aaron Copeland's "Fanfare for The Common Man" might do...
What choice would other posters make for their departure piece?

Suddenly reminded of "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen.

ooh, deep. Well, I don't want a funeral, but if other people insist then I guess I'll have:
When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going by Billy Ocean
The Only Way is Up by Yazz
With perhaps:
All By Myself by anyone really, just to make things really heart-wrenching for those left behind.

Albioni's Adagio because it is just so funereal and tragic it has to be.
Pachelbel's Kanon in D because I wanted it at my wedding, but ditched the churchy bit so it didn't happen.
And Top of the World by the Carpenters - I defy anyone to hear that and not end up tapping their toes and smiling. That's how a funeral (or wake or whatever) should end. With smiles.

For laughs : Knock on Wood.
For my serious funeral song - Cemetary Gates by Pantera (unless I've died after being in a coma, in which case 'Hollow' would be more appropriate and tear-jerking).
My ex had Tubular Bells played at his father's funeral. I tried to talk him out of it but it was a piece him and his dad enjoyed listening to together and in times of grief, one will do what one wants to do! unfortunately, being a bit of a goth and an outsider from the families, most of the more extended family were seriously uncomfortable, not knowing whether it was ironic, offensive, funny or 'other'. Of course, it was 'other' but the shuffling was amusing...

the whole thing? even the fuzz guitar bits where one imagines the girl's head whizzing around and spewing pea soup?
man, that's brilliant.

Feeling Good by Nina Simone 'cos it relaxes me in times of stress, or Davidian by Machine Head 'cos they wrote it about me .

I think it was about 4 minutes of it, I dont remember clearly, it was the opening few bars that got the most reaction... Lots of looks. When they saw him crying his eyes out they all tried to take it seriously.
Bridge Over Troubled Water helped them leave in the right mood, luckily...

Should I presume that those regulars who haven't thought of a dirge for themsleves a members of the 60% of the population who haven't written a Will, (Immortal are you?) , or just have no sense of humour about themselves.........

Last Train Home or Rooftops by lostprophets.
Incidentally - I don't have a will because I'm only 23 - I have nothing to give away.

I dont have one either... Everything would go to my mum, I've no dependents and nothing particularly complicated to sort out...
Unless I want to leave my bed, car and My Little Ponys to a charity or something!

I don't have a will since I don't really have enough to warrant one. But I have a letter instructing my Aunt (next-of-kin) who to contact, and who I'd like to get what, which seems to be enough. And a CD of the song I mentioned in post 2.

Every thing I've ever recorded, all 1400 plus songs, in reverse chronological order so it gets progressively more amateurish and juvenile over the course of the week.
