The Internet Appears To Be Broken...
Secretly Not Here Any More Started conversation Dec 11, 2007
Just received this from our company's IT guy:
"At the moment there is a problem accessing any websites which reside outside of the UK.
This is a countrywide problem. Our ISP is keeping me updated as to when the problem will be rectified.
This is not a problem with the ISP rather a problem with the Internet itself"
What's that about then??

I'm outside the uk and doing a quick traceroute on the BBC I'm reading this page without any difficulties and the connection runs from France, Into Germany, across the Netherlands and for some obscure reason it's telling me the BBC server I'm connected to is in Glasgow...
No problems with international connections coming into the UK then.
(I'll second the comment about an IT guy talking rubbish by the way)

I'm in the UK and currently using Outpost Gallifrey, which is hosted in the US, with no problem. Your IT man is trying the BBB approach.

I guess there always had to be a first time for an IT guy to talk rubbish.
Sounds like classic user error to me. Are you sure you switched it on at the mains?

Maybe some people drove a forklift truck into your phone line.

Maybe he just doesn't know. He does look amazingly non-plussed by the whole situation. Still, he's just had the snip so I guess he can't be right at the top of his game...

I'd guess the actual cause is probably the several gig in Torrents he's downloading on company time.

Oh Croz, you're so cynical... Probably right though.

I'm in Trinidad and can access the BBC O.K but cannot log onto MSN or retrieve e-mails through my U.K Tiscali account.

Sounds like that could be a coincidence. Can't believe I fell for "The Internet's Broken."
That'll teach me to trust IT support people...
