According to physicist and author of Free Radicals,
Michael Brooks, 'Science is the new rock and roll'.
"And while he couldn't remember ever having taken
hallucinogenic drugs to help him in his 40 year
career as a research scientist, Sir Paul did
acknowledge the crucial role of creativity in
scientific advance, but insisted he doesn't
have a pointy head."

jwf: Certainly creativity is a key process in science - man creates
his own reality.

< man creates his own reality.>
Exactly. It's why I say that there are seven billion and one universes, the one real one and the version created in the mind of each of the seven billion people in the world.
If you think of your brain as an analog computer then your mind is a representation of the universe, yourself included. The only problem is that there's nothing in your brain that can tell the difference between what's real and what's purely imaginary. Science was invented as a way to sort the two so the goal of a scientist is to make her version of the universe as close as possible to the real one.
Also, science discovers giant wombats so I have one more thing to add to my imagination, my universe.

Fair dos...
We lay on the sunny riverbank,
Her body was all a-quiver.
I undid her suspender belt,
And her leg fell in the river.

Notice how he often holds his hands together in an
unconscious reflex of palm touching palm, much like
prayer.
Of course he is not aware of it but the more troubled
he becomes, the more deeply he is thinking, the more
effort he puts into being thoughtful and well mannered,
then the more he puts his hands together like he was
praying.
It is, as I have often said, a primary posture of
the mind/body relationship. And it is something we
should be more aware of in our body language. And
of course we should also consciously exercise the
practice of praying hands as a self determining,
self-centering ritual.

Well Johann Hari might be a bit of a BĂȘte noire, what with the plagiarism and sock puppetry. But this is a fabulous speech.
Good stuff Johann.

"An Austrian atheist has won the right to be shown on his driving-licence photo wearing a pasta strainer as "religious headgear".
Niko Alm first applied for the licence three years ago after reading that headgear was allowed in official pictures only for confessional reasons.
Mr Alm said the sieve was a requirement of his religion, pastafarianism."
The Flying Spagehetti Monster (Passata Be Upon Him) will be waving his noodly appendages in in appreciation.
Although poor reporting by the BBC he's NOT an atheist he's a Pastafarian...
